Here's a link to Lock 'n Go Information from Bonnie:  http://www.thelockandgo.com/LockandGo/LockandGo.html
When would these be used? Is there any way that my SR could have access to this locker on his way to his A-school in Mississippi? That would be great though so I don't have to wait on mailing! :)
No sorry these are only for those going to A school in Great Lakes....sorry
Okay that's what I figured! Thanks for responding so quickly though!

Where can I go to get something in writing to have printed in our local newspaper (of his accomplishments) when our son Graduates? January 28 at 9:37pm

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command:  During boot camp, the recruits are given the opportunity to complete a Fleet Hometown News release form that gets sent to their local newspapers. You will need to ask you recruit if he completed one and if so, then ask your local newspaper(s) what their average timeline is for receiving military news release information and when they publish it.January 29 at 8:54am

Passing Requirements and PIR

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command:  Passing Battle Stations shouldn't be a worry. Failing to pass academic tests or physical fitness tests, injuries and illnesses should be more the worry. We don't have a percentage to offer as to how many don't actually graduation on time. Do know however, that at any point if a recruit is in jeopardy of not graduating, he/she is allowed to phone with that information.

Oh, and something that wasn't passed along onto our PIR group.  When picking up your sailor for liberty you will go into the first gate on the right which is right across the railroad tracks. You will not go into the gate you went into for PIR.  This is also where you will drop them off in the evening.  Make sure to have your gate pass which is good for the entire weekend and your DL handy.  You are able to park in the parking lot right by the NEX.  That is where we met my son in the morning.  He was standing out there waiting for us.  When we dropped him off we went to the same parking lot for that also.  They have to walk from the parking lot to their ship.  You will not be allowed to go any farther than that parking lot.

If she isn't a Grad and Go you will go through the Main Gate which is on the RTC side of base.  It is the gate right after the railroad tracks.  We picked my son up at 9am Sat and Sun and he was already standing outside right by the parking lot outside of the NEX.  There is the NEX a parking lot and the church.  You can't go past the church.  It is restricted to civilians.  You can also meet them in "Ricky Heaven".  When we dropped him off we went into the parking lot and went inside of Ricky Heaven.  Parents and family are allowed in the Nex and that area to "hang" out.

We took the taxi (shuttle) to PIR and found it easy.  Dropped us off right at the gate and the Hall was right there - not a lot of walking.  Afterwards just go right back out to where you were dropped off and cross the street and jump into any taxi to get back to your hotel.  $3 per person, each way.  After seeing the line of cars, we were happy we used the taxi.  Do not be afraid to ask people who are directing traffic, for information/directions to taxis.  We opted to take a 7am taxi, which was @ 40 minutes late picking us up.  By the time we got into the Hall, it was packed.  I had some great mom's who saves seats for my family, so we were not forced up into the balcony.  With such a large group, go early!!!  Pack yourself some granola bars for breakfast and hit the road to ensure you get to sit where you want.  I would not take items to PIR that you do not need, as things do fall under the bleachers easily and you will not be able to retrieve them until after the ceremony is over.  805 - You will have the worst seats in the house, so be prepared.  Your Sailor's will end up right in front of you though and it is amazing to just stare at the group.  They do have a movie screen so you can see what is going on, center stage, but it isn't huge.
We did not go to NEX after PIR, we saw the swarm of people heading over there and decided we did not need to be in that crowd.  My son had to get back, so we only had a few minutes to spend with him anyway.  He was Grand and Go and moved that day over to the other side of the base.  Some were released for Liberty within just a few hours of moving, mine was with the very last group and did not come through the gate until just after 5:30pm.  Once they move, they are not allowed to enter the RTC side anymore.  My son needed to go to NEX to get some uniform ear muffs.  We had no problem getting on base (Gate 1) with him as our escort to go to the NEX on that side.  He had weekend Liberty and again we had no problem driving him on base Sunday evening, back to his barracks.  He had quite a bit of personal items to carry so this was nice that we could drive him back.  You are allowed to walk into the building with them, but not allowed in their barracks.  If you drive on base with your Sailor, let your Sailor do the talking with the gate guard.  If the guard asks you a question, then answer it.  DO NOT touch your Sailor's ID, they must show it themselves.
My recruit will not grad till April, but I am interested in reading all the comments. How will I know where the gates are? Is it a different gate ( and where) to pick them up for liberty than the gate we enter for PIR ?
Tnmimom, My son graduates on March 11, after which, I'll be posting more details about gates, etc. Please read carefully through what has already been posted to find answers to your questions. There is a group that will be going to PIR on March 4th. I am going to ask them to post specific details about gates too.
