While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

NROTC CYBER OPTION?!!?!
Hello,
My daughter is a college sophomore, and was just awarded a slot for COSR (Cyber Option Scholarship Reservation). Apparently only 3 people in the country got it. And he unit staff does not even know quite what it is. All they can say is that she'll be an information warfare officer when she commissions from NROTC.
Does anyone know exactly what this is?
They also told her she was going to be going to an AFB this summer to learn cyber stuff for "cruise" instead of the traditional cruise.

Supertgrl - don't know if this is what you are talking about, but it sounds like it might be. Go to: keesler.af.mil/news.
Keesler Air Force Base is about 15 miles from me. I saw an article in our local paper recently about this. There is also a Navy Seebee base in Gulfport. The Navy also sends some of the meterorology students to Keesler for training, although I believe they are building in Gulfport for these students. I went to the Keesler Air Force Base site, then just put "cyber" in the search box and came up with a couple articles. Hopes this helps you.

Information warfare for enlisted means ITs (computer security, radio communications, and maintenance) and cryptology (codes and codebreaking). This is basically computer hacking/cracking, and protection from hacking/cracking, as well as using computers to find the bad guys, trace them using computer tracing methods, etc. This is a new field, recently created by combining several related fields into one group that deals with using information as a weapon against them, and to defend against our enemies gaining our information. Enlisted Cyber Warfare schools are at Corry Station in Pensacola, Florida. I don't know where officers would go.
Is she a computer science major? This would make sense, to be among the first Information Warfare Officers.

She's an Electrical Engineering Major. I guess the program is so new, not everyone has heard about it yet or knows anything about it yet?

Do look at the Keesler Air Force base site. Since you mentioned Air Foce base, I bet this is it. The article from December said it was the first class of its kind to graduate and was the up and coming thing. This sounds exciting - congratulations to your daughter.
