OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Add a list of phone numbers and addresses to put in his wallet. Everyone keeps them in their phones these days and he may not recall the numbers when he tries to call in a rush.

How about personal supplies for the girls?  Are those allowed?

Pads and tampons, yes, anything else like Midol or feminine wipes, no.

Many girls end up returning the pads and tampons, for some reason some RDCs only want them using what is available in the little store where they shop.

When I was in (back in the dark ages, LOL)  they disallowed tampons and only let us use those stupid "mattress pads." We weren't even allowed the thin pads. I get the no tampon thing (they are associated with so many female problems), but the mattress pad thing never made sense.

Cash - $25 is allowed.
Our MEPS handed out small pocket bibles. We also had him take his cell phone charger so if he needed to charge his phone at the airport, he could.
Most end up sending everything back except whatever you have in their plain black or brown billfold, except for the pocket bible.  In my SR's billfold, he had a small piece of paper with several addresses and a few phone numbers (they've forgotten phone numbers since the advent of cell phones).  Put in a couple pages of stamps.  Put in a note for them to find later.  Put in a religious medal that they can put on their dog tag.  Put in an activated calling card and some band aids.  My son has not be allowed to use any of the SASE that I've mailed him.  He is required to use their letterhead and envelopes by his RDC.  Some may allow them to use different stationery, but many cannot so I wouldn't send it.  I've seen others told they can take $25 in cash and mine did...it wasn't returned in The Box.  Make sure they have the allowed items IN their billfold because many forget to take them out of their pockets and accidentally send them home in the chaos.  All clothes (including their underwear and the shoes on their feet) will be returned in The Box or may be donated.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I'm certain I will have plenty more
My son took $25 cash so that he'd have money to spend on the way (he left home the day before he was due to leave for BC) and he took his cell phone so he could call us before he got there. The last call we got was "The bus is pulling up to the RTC right now, I have to go, I love you." The phone came back in the box, phone in 1 shoe, battery in the other.
I would also like to know the answer to these questions! My daughter leaves June 21st and I am feeling more than a little apprehensive. Knowing what to expect and how to plan I know will relieve some of the stress!
Join the June group at http://www.navyformoms.com/group/leavinforbootcampinjune.  If you look in the discussion forum, you'll see a June BC Calendar and the families are VERY active there.  They are wonderfully supportive and you'll get a lot of questions answered.  Welcome!
