My daughter wants me to go to Pensacola after PIR. Will I see her before A school starts?

My daughter called and begged me to come to Pensacola after she graduates from Bootcamp.  She says she will have a few days off before starting A school?  Has anyone done this and do you actually get to see them?  I have heard conflicting stories.  I know she will probably be busy getting processed, so do I go and see?  Do you stay at a hotel close to the base?  I don't want to let her down, but I have to consider the cost of getting there, and wondering if I would actually spend time with her before she starts A school?  I will call her recruiter today but I wanted to check with those of you who may have done this.  We are going to Graduation but she has to leave at 2am Saturday morning to head to Florida.  Any advice would be appreciated.  She only has three weeks left!! :)

New sailors may have time between when they arrive at A school and when they begin classes (sometimes more than 2 months, especially at Pensacola NAS) but during that time they are kept working a daily schedule. They do office work, clean the base, mop floors, etc.

They get evenings and weekends off, but they are not allowed to leave base at least for 2 weeks (at Corry Station), and often for 6 weeks or more (at Pensacola NAS).

If she will be grad-and-go from boot camp, visiting at Pensacola is not a bad idea, tough you may want to wait a week or two until she settles in. You can still spend time together, you just need to do it on base. There are actually a lot of things to do on base. At the NAS they have a beach, sailboat rentals, and beach cabin rentals (which your daughter would have to arrange for a later visit). At Corry Station there are on-base museums, a recreation center with a pool and great shopping at the NEX.

Hi,  Thank you for replying!  That helps.  I believe I will see her after 7 weeks, so it may be that I don't go to Pensacola right away.  Thankyou again!!
I visited Pensacola, it does have a lot to do on it, even a Aviation Museum. Just a heads up, even if she has liberty she could be given watch or duty, and sometimes that does happen overweekends. At the beginning her time is so limited for free time, I would definitely wait. Hope you do make plans to go there, I really enjoyed my visit with my sailor and all her shipmates/bunkmates, it was fun. We rented jet skis and had a blast in the Gulf of Mexico!
