OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello Everyone.

Safety for your SR (future Sailor) and you!

LAST names are NOT allowed anywhere on this site.

FIRST names ARE allowed but we will most often advise you not to use them. This is a public forum and anyone can read the posts-they do not have to be a member (if the group is set to private, the public cannot read but all N4M members can-so all you have to do is join) While they use their last names in BC (in fact they don't usually, if ever, find out each other’s first names until the end of BC), the RDC's know who they are and can then, with the right amount of info, link them up to you. So, let’s say you use your last name in your N4M name, post a picture of your SR...easy to match up...and so on.

Why does that matter? Your SR's are trying to get through BC with as little undue attention as possible. "Fly under the radar", so to speak. One SR reported his picture plastered on a wall of the classroom one day...another had to do 5 pushups for every time his mom posted.

The MOST important reason for being discreet is OPSEC-Operational Security. This is a way of life for us now. It will be for your Sailors career. Some even more so depending on their individual security clearance. Some moms have mentioned that even today after years they do not know EXACTLY what their sailor does.

SPECOPS...definitely needs to be VERY careful.

Thank You.

Very confusing...on your home page it clearly states:

"Create a profile so you can postPhotos and Videos of your son or daughter and share stories with other moms."

Ichijo3 - Thank you! This is why I have left these open for comment.

>>>...on your home page it clearly states:

I am not a Site administrator or anything like that for N4M's. I am just another mom like you (wife/GF etc.) so when I write my post it is from my view point, and /or experience, and from what other moms have advised me of or experienced themselves.  So it is not my home page ;-).

As far as photos or videos on your profile page that is your option. I have some...just not of my Sailor...my preference.

>>>LAST names are NOT allowed anywhere on this site.

>>>"FIRST names ARE allowed but we will most often advise you not to use them. "

I DO say that last names are not allowed. I don't say NO pictures...I only advise you that "we", the other moms who have been through PIR and are on the PIR groups, will most often advise you not to use them. Then I explain why we advise that...it is not a rule of OPSEC or N4M...just advice from what we have experienced or have had others report in. So this is your perogative. I chose NOT to post any pictures of my SR or use his first name or mine, I felt better safe than sorry, but then I have been a military wife for 27 years and that's just the way I think already! LOL

Now, OPSEC is put out by the "powers that be" and must be followed. Same for the Community Guidelines for N4M.(The last name rule IS from N4M's Community Guidelines)

I hope that clears up any confusion. I will be rewriting the "we" part to explain who "we" is!
