I'm not sure about that yet. I think your son will send you a letter with that info. But if something happens, i think he will call and let you know if his PIR will be set back.

You need to wait until you get the letter confirming your recruit's PIR date. Airlines are the problem, not hotels.

Get your flight within a week or two after getting your letter. The longer you wait, the more expensive it gets. Some people recommend getting transferrable tickets, but in some cases it is more expensive to pay for the transferrable tickets than just paying for a change in reservations. Fly into Milwaukee, Wisconson, it's about $100 cheaper than flying into Chicago, and the same distance from Great Lakes.

If you have the time, take Amtrak. It's cheaper for tickets and if your recruit's PIR date is delayed, it is much cheaper to change reservations.

Local hotels are so used to dealing with boot camp families, they have great deals up to a few weeks before your PIR date. One hotel, the Navy Lodge, never raises its prices, but since it is both Navy-run and the closest hotel to PIR Hall (it's actually on base, in family housing) it also fills up quickly.

The hotels there are also very good about letting families change reservations with no extra charge. About 1 in 5 recruits do not PIR with their original division, due to injuries, illness, or problems with swim test, academics, or fitness.

Howdy all,  My son leaves for GL on Dec 13th.  On Dec 12th they are planning for him to stay at a hotel then we meet him at the base on the 13th for his swear in and he's off to the airport to BC.  very exiting and scary at the same time :) :(

sboli - Just rememeber, more that likely you can get an airline gate pass to hang out with him.  It's great closure to see the plane leave.  Sad, but at least it's closure.

Here is the rule for TSA with military family members gate pass... You get the pass at the ticket counter of the airline he is leaving on.  (ie for example the United ticket counter)

Accommodations For U.S. Military Personnel

Military Family Member Gate Passes

Family members who want to accompany a military service member being deployed to the boarding gate or greet them returning from deployment at the arrival gate may receive passes to enter the secure area of the airport.

Interested military family members should contact their air carrier representative at the departure/arrival airport for proper local procedures.

My son has a ship date of Dec 28th but as of yet haven't gotten word of his earlier date the week of Dec 12.  Well, he might know but just hasn't passed it along.  I'm getting excited for him and I think he is too.  Going Nuke so he's in for a long, tough ride but he will do it!  Look forward to this journey with you other moms!

My rate is SN. PACT Seaman is the program. My A school is only 2 weeks and I stay in Chicago for that also. I've never been out of Oklahoma in 21 years (except for Texas but that doesn't really count lol) so I am worried the weather change will get me sick before I even get out of the airport! Hopefully not!
Nick's- I haven't found any other females leaving in December besides you! I need someone to talk to about everything until I leave because I am getting nervous and scared and none of my family is military and of course any guy I talk to that's been in already says it is easy and not to be scared...but they are guys! I don't think they would say they were scared even if they really were :p
Skyla815, i totally understand. I have another girl thats going with me but she is kind of rude. And I can tell you I really am. We can talk until I leave on December 6th. I'm pretty sure we will be in the same division together hopefully. Anyways if you want you can text me 7193373088. I know a lot so i may be help to you
There is one girl that leaves with me on the same day (even though our dates will most likely be moved up before then, they haven't said anything about going early to us yet) and she is way more ready than I am. She scares me! She can do push ups while doing a hand stand and like 50 pull ups (I can't do ONE). She says that boot camp will get her out of shape because she is used to doing way more. Yikes! I'm doing everything I can right now just to stay at my max BF% because after I joined in April, it went up and down. I think mostly because I am stressed out and growing increasingly nervous. I'm at work right now so I can't use my phone but you can message me on here and I will give you my email address. I'm so happy I found you! :) haha
wow that kind of scares me.. well you wont get tested on doing pull ups9i cant do one either) but they will test you on sit ups and push ups... and 1 1/2 mile run and swimming. Ya i understand about BF% cause I'm just getting mine down now. Don't stress out so much it will make it even worse. And it's nice to find someone who will go to boot camp in December. Hopefully we will be in the same ship and division together
Yeah, that would be pretty cool. I guess we wouldn't know until the day of since we aren't leaving from the same place anyways. I'm not really sure how it works. I can't do my run still. I hired a trainer to work with me 3 x a week just to improve my endurance and then I would work on my time later but my recruiter and I decided I would quit my job in about a week and come to the office 5 days a week to run, work out, study, and do everything I can to get ready for December. He wants me to do it just as bad as I do and I don't want to get to boot camp out of shape to the point where I get sent home. That's my biggest worry right now more than being home sick or yelled at. I just don't want to fail.
ya me either. I'm starting PT in two Wednesdays from now and I got everything done except running..well I know if there isnt 80 girls to fill a division when i get there, we sit in a temporary ship till its filled. I guess we will see. I'm excited. Anyways i know that you have 3 fitness tests through out boot camp. i believe the first one is to see if you can do it but it would be better if you could so you dont get yelled at
