After my Son left Boot Camp, he let me know that many of the RDC's read this board for fun. Posting in what may be seen as an overreacting or distressed manner does not help your SR. Especially if you mention his name and division in some of your posts.

You certainly wouldn't want to give the RDC's any additional reason to take notice of your SR.

This debate has been going on for almost the whole 3 years I've been on here. Goodness believe what you want just protect your sailor at all times, that's all.

I don't think your son is making it up. In fact,  Angie's talking about the RDC and you're talking about the instructor... two different roles.

That said, I have NO problem believing that an RDC would have fun with a recruit given the opportunity and maintaining that belief is not the same as saying that the RDCs don't have a full workday. Hell, I'd find a way to have a little fun with the youngsters if I had the job if for no other reason than to repay the fun my Company Commander had with me.

More, I've had PLENTY of full schedules in and out of the Navy and without being an RDC, I'd bet my house on the fact there is some downtime during the course of that day and that RDCs aren't above filling that time with a little distraction. ... I mean that its not like perusing the message board of a web site takes more than a couple minutes.  Hell, those message boards can be amusing to many of us. I see no reason why an RDC wouldn't be similarly amused... perhaps more so.

This was posted here in 2010........

All,
I am the Command Master Chief of RTC. I report directly to the Commanding Officer on all matters at RTC. The Command Team is comprised of the Commanding Officer (CO or "Captain"), the Executive Officer (XO) and the Command Master Chief (CMC or COB if you're from submarines). If you've met the Captain, especially at Pass in Review, chances are nearly 100% you've met me.
Yesterday, I directed all staff to cease use/monitoring of the N4M website, specifically the Boot Camp portion. I received non-specific complaints involving my staff using the information contained herein against the recruits. The complaints were unfounded, however I thought it would be in everyone's best interest to take pause while I took a look at the website myself. I will lift the restriction when appropriate.
I assure you all, the staff at RTC is absolutely top shelf. The vast majority are hand-selected and all are some of the most professional, dedicated, and focused Sailors I have served with in nearly 26 years. I would trust my own children to any one of them without question.
This institution breeds excellence in both the staff and the recruits who eventually become Sailors.

LOL! I'm not sure where to begin?

At the naivete of someone actually getting themselves in a bunch and calling RTC because a recruit was singled out and perhaps teased in good fun or with the CMC for actually responding?

GEEEESH... It's not like an RDC ever needed to use N4M to "use information against a recruit". For Pete's sake, the spelling of your last name can earn you good old fashioned teasing.

Good thing I wasn't the CMC... My response would have been FAR different. It may have looked like this...

"There is a rumor going around that we at RTC are denying sleep to recruits and picking on them for the most minor infractions. Indeed, some have suggested that we occasionally have a little fun by teasing them about their homes, upbringing, funny sounding names, and weird idiosyncrasies. As a result, I wanted to set the record straight.

The rumors are not rumors at all. Its all true. We're messing with your adult children. We've been training sailors long before you were born and we will be training them long after you're dead. Thus far, you and your ancestors have enjoyed the freedoms that our training methods have provided without interruption.

Carry on."

Bottom line is if you wouldnt tell the man walking down the street then dont tell it here....keep personal stuff to yourself

My son told me the same thing. Perhaps this is done on the RDC time off? rying to stay neutral and P.C.!! This is new for me, so be warned!

I know for a fact that the RDCs will occasionally peruse these sites. The RDCs did so with my daughter's division. Not only did the mom post about it out PIR group, but my daughter verified that it occurred. It was toward the end of training and all in good fun.
