From our fabulous contact Dawn:
We just received Marjorie Marjenhoff's pillowcases in Kabul! They are going fast!! :D
I don't have a photo of her pcs, but it's good to know they are going fast. Marjorie came from the CW article.
this thank you note came to Rose, another sewer that came from the article. Dawn hands out the pcs to all deployed troops and I am so thankful for her!
Rose:
Thanks Rose, one of the pillowcase you have made is now on my hands
and it will help me to sleep here in Kabul. My name is Casto . I
am 48 years old and I am MSG in the Spanish Army. I am working in a
team composed by 4 US guys and myself. I am not serving to your
Country but I am sure enough that we are joining the same goal. I am
married with two kids, one boy and one girl. We are
living in xxxxx Spain. You should be sure that your troops need
your support here far away from your home and country. For some NATO
troops this friendly support is something that they share whit us.
It is not possible to have better allied.
By the way Rosa is the name of my mum, my sister and it was also the
name of my grandmother.
Casto Bxxxxx
Here are the pillowcases that Rose sent:
I wrote and asked him which pc he took. He sent me a photo and said this:
Hi Sue:
Thanks you for your fantastic work. It is very gratefully to be
supported from home. My deployment is going well so far, I am in a
comfortable and secure place here in Kabul. But it is also very
demanded job and we are working around 15 hours per day, every day I
go to the bed exhausted.
Attached you can find the photo of the pillowcase I have.
Thanks a lot
Casto
This thank you note came addressed to Rose who read the article in Country Woman magazine. Hers were sent to Dawn.
I didn't start making pillowcases for this reason in June 2008, but it is why I continue to do it today! Our troops need our
support:
Thank you so much for the pillowcase! It came just in time too J I checked into my new command and was issued a pillow, sheets, and blanket. The pillow was nasty. The pillowcase wasn’t even a pillowcase, it was a pillow protector… that didn’t even fit the pillow! I just so happened to walk by a stack of your pillowcases and got one. I’m sure it’ll see all of Afghanistan before I go home!

it has been a while ladies, good to see you all still here and caring. Have there been any requests for pillow cases? May I help?
good to hear from you also! Yes, we have a new Marine battalion. See the thread for CLB-2
Got this note from Dawn this morning:
Hi Sue,
That's great news! People really love them here! I received Ginnie's box today. She made a beautiful blue one with red trim that said USA all over it! I took that one for myself and put it on my chair at work. That is the new trend here by the way --people putting them on the back of their chairs in the office. This place is so bright and colorful now! Thank you so much!
Dawn
Ginnie didn't take a photo so we can't "see" it.,
I got this email this morning from Dawn. Any helpers?
Hi Sue,
We just had a young Army E-4 up here looking for pillowcases for her office. If you have a box or two ready to go, feel free to send them to:
also LT M (US Navy!!!) said she will hand out a couple boxes as well
Only if you have extras that need good homes. :) Thanks again Sue for all you do!
Dawn
this thank you note came from a soldier who got some extras pcs from the 713th En Co.
Cathy, my name is Steve A, I am a Staff Sergeant in the Missouri Army National Guard deployed to Afghanistan. I am writing to tell you thank you for caring about soldiers quality of life while deployed. I have just arrived to my duty station here in country and am in the process of relieving the 713th Engineer Company, a unit from Indiana that is at the end of their tour and ready to return home. One of the things that happens is that individual Soldiers pass things on that they have had to the new guys and one of the things that was given to me for my guys were a few pillow cases. This by itself may not sound like much until I opened mine up to find out that it was hand made by you and that you took the time to put a note inside of it. I know I just got here but it made me feel good that people still care about the guys that are coming over here to do their part for the war that it seems folks don't care about anymore.
I just wanted to say thank you to you and your friends for your act of kindness and caring.
Thank you and God Bless,
SSG A
1138th ENG Co.
this pillowcase was given out by Dawn. I love that she shares with our Allies.
Dear Maam,
I just wanted to thank you for the lovely gift of a beautiful pillow case, which was made by Ginnie C. It never ceases to amaze me, the generosity of so many people who think and pray for those of us that serve overseas. This is my 9th operational tour, spanning a career of over 20 years with the British Army, but it is my first in Afghanistan.
I deployed here from Iraq as I was serving on the NATO Training Mission in Iraq until the 23 December 2011. I am honoured to be serving with some great people here, many of whom are US personnel, military, civilian Government employees and contractors alike. We all work to a common purpose, which is to protect our personnel on the ground and complete the mission. I think, however, this will be my last operational tour as I have decided it is time to move on and find a second career that is more family friendly. The memories of these tours are also accumulative, and having broken bread with too many friends in the morning only to mourn their loss in the afternoon, I feel that I have enough to last a lifetime.
The pillow case I chose is one of birds set against a backdrop of leaves. I reminds me of home, as I live in a very small, old cottage on the edge of the moors in the North of Yorkshire, England.
Once again, thank you for your generosity and your kind thoughts.
