Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hotel and car rental

Any ideas on hotels and car rentals close to the base for PIR weekend? I dont want to have to drive around town too much while Im there. Dont like trying to figure out how to get places that Im not familiar with.

I just read the replies from all of the other mom's and am so confused about where to stay. What about flights? Is there a suggested site to go to?  The brochure has MWR Travel Desk / Fox World Travel listed. Did anyone use them?

Great Lakes Navy Lodge is the closest to the base, and the staff is trained to help families that come to PIR. Rooms are $ 65 without tax. Each room is equipped with two quen beds, refrigerator, coffee machine and microwawe., You can also get extra bed at no charge. Every morning from 6 am to 10 am is served breakfast to go. Navy Lodge is located 40 minutes from the Chicago airport and is in the military housing, off-base in a quiet and lovely neighborhood where everything is perfect for you and your sailors. Personnel will answer any questions you have and help you in everything you need  during your stay. Navy Lodge phone number is 847 689 1485

Good evening....any recommendations for hotels that allow pets?  Are there any?  I think we'd need to kennel the dogs for the PIR itself, since we'd have no one to watch them, but since I haven't seen anything along these lines, I was wondering if there is a way to do this to keep the critters less stressed with us being away from home for a few days.   It'd cheer up our SR to have them with...he'd get a kick out of it.  :)

The Navy Lodge is located 1.9 miles off base from RTC and guests of graduation are allowed to stay there.  https://reservations.staydod.com/hotelSearch.do?action=View&pro... or 847-689-1485.  I have heard that pets are permitted.

We are staying at the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites.  My husband is retired Army.  Can anybody tell me how close it is to graduation.  And is it difficult getting on base with a rental care.

The Navy Gateway Inns & Suites is located on the main base, about 1.5 miles from the RTC.  Traffic gets bad early, so plan on getting to the RTC by 6:30 am when the gates open.  You will need a vehicle pass (download at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp 11 days or less before PIR), ID for everyone in the car and the rental agreement to get on the RTC.

I heard there is a local hotel with an indoor water park...anyone know of this?  Right now we are booked at the Ramada. ANyone know if the reception is Thursday or Friday night?

You may be thinking of the Key Lime Cove (clickable link).  The Meet and Greets are the night before PIR.  Here are the links for the Meet and Greets for your PIR group:  PIR 11/09/2012 SARGE'S MEET AND GREET (I highly recommend you go to this one as he has a LOT of great info for you.) and PIR 11/09/2012 Ramada Meet and Greet.  Flanagan's usually has one as well, but there is not one posted yet for your PIR date.  To see the Events for a particular date, go to Events on the right and move the calendar to the date (in this case 8 November), and then click on the date.
