How long do they stay in A school.. There is a graduation cermony too? After A School then what?? Received my son in a box today, with no form letter.. hopefully form letter will come tomorrow.. even tho I went ahead on the recruiters word and bought my plane ticket to Chicago for Tuesday November 20th... I may be spending Thanksgiving and Friday in Chicago by myself...

He has been in A- school since he graduated from Boot camp which was July 20, 2012. He left for A-School after graduation.  You will get a letter from the Navy about your son's graduation soon. I got the son in a box too. The Navy graduation is AWESOME!!!!!! I am not going to his graduation from A- school because my son said it is no big deal. He does not know where he will be station yet. If he is stationed in the states he will have a 14 day leave or if stationed out of the states he will get a 21 day leave. He comes home after A-school. My son is a part of the Seabees division in the navy. He is a equipment operator for the various machines in the navy. Once your son goes to A-school he will be allow to have a cell phone and laptop. My daughter and I went to downtown Chicago with my son after the graduation ceremony. The pedestrians are crazy! They walk even when a car is coming in their direction! The city is beautiful. Try to get to the city if you can, also there is a free zoo called The Lincoln Zoo. If possible you might want to rent a car, it comes in handy. In the letter that you will receive, you will get a pamphlet of hotels and shuttle services of which you can take.  We stayed at the Comfort Inn, it was nice and it had food restaurants near by. Take the shuttle bus from the hotel to the graduation, once you get in your hotel, let them know you are staying because of the Naval graduation. If you have more questions, please feel free to reply. I hope this was helpful for you.

Thank you for all of your information.  It is very helpful.  I am hoping to spend Friday with my son and go into Chocago..

Thank you . I glad I can help. Any other question please free feel to ask. What is your son going to do in the Navy? When he in Boot camp he will be able to write you letters.

He left for bc 26th.  I have not received any letters yet.  Received box yesterday.  His recruiter gave me the PIR date, so because of the holidays I booked it last night.  Now on to Hotels

The first letter got from my son was 3 weeks or more. I got a letter from the Navy. It tells you about the graduation and about the hotels in the area near the Navy base. My son got to pick 4 people to invite to his graduation. It was my daughter and I. My son girlfriend and her Mom went too. It was a AWESOME TIME!!!!!!

debnchris, What will your SR's rating (job) be?  That will determine where he goes for "A" School and how long it is and also how much time you will have for Liberty after PIR.

He is doing something with the aircraft carriers.  He said that he was told that he was gong to go to Pensacola, FL.

I remember you mentioning that on Monday in another discussion, but with the other things we were discussing, I didn't give you the links to the groups in Pensacola.  Here are two of the Pensacola groups, Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!! and Parents of A School Sailors in Pensacola. If you find out his rating, let me know and there may be a group for it as well that I can direct you to.

(Group names within this reply are clickable links.)

Thank you so much.  Did you see that I passed on the information that you posted about the date of PIR on the 23rd?  Litamg was the one that received the letter today with the date of the 23rd on it.

Thanks.  The PAO has assured me that the situation has been addressed, but we need to make sure everyone knows about this ASAP in case some have made reservations.  The PIR date and divisions have been posted on http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp.  There are 11 divisions in the Thanksgiving TG rather than 9 indicated currently by the site (they'll fix that tomorrow I'm sure).
