my son is also on the Mississippi this is my sons second boat he was originally on the Seawolf it is going on 13 years he has been in.

Kathy, any tips on dealing with  things like staying in touch with our boys, or anything else a newby sub parent might need to know would be greatly appreciated.   GO Mississippi!

it is a pretty exciting time for them. at some point you will get his e-mail address and you can keep in touch that way or if they are in port he may call. They also receive mail,it is especially nice for them during the holidays to receive packages nothing to big tho not much room.. nice talking to you any questions hope I can answer them.

Thanks for the input!

Hi subdad! My son is on the Mississippi, LT JG as well!  Nice to know another parent, although I haven't been on N4M much lately.  They are a great bunch of men who get to do life together for a while!!!

Jordosmom, Josh just met the officers yesterday and said they were all really great.  He is really excited to get underway and start to qualify.  I'm new to all this , so would appreciate any info or advice that might help me figure things out.  I guess we've managed to raise a couple of pretty extraordinary young men.

subdad, Josh is correct. It is a great boat, with some amazing men on it! Have you viewed any of the you tube videos regarding the boat?  There are some good ones out there which were filmed before, during, and after the commissioning.  My personal favorite is Dolphin Escort USS Mississippi.

I know I am late on this post but before my son went on his first cruise I got the book "NUB" true story of a new guy on a sub. Gave me some insight and understanding of the process so when my son was qualifying I knew what he was going through and when he got his "fish" I knew what that entailed.

My Sailor Boy is serving on the USS Buffalo, "The Buffy". Been there almost 2 years now.

God Bless ALL our Military and their Families.

My son got his orders yesterday.  He will serve on the La Jolla.

Yay! finally saw 'La Jolla' in these recent posts! Welcome snj1959 :)

My Son serves on the USS Toledo.  They just returned from an 8 month deployment

and they are soooo happy to finally be back!  They are an awesome group of sailors!

Go Toledo!
