The USS Mobile Bay is currently on deployment and could use a little Love From Back Home.

We have the blessing of the command and they are looking forward to seeing the Men and Women on the ship get some love from home.

We will begin shipping 357 pillowcases starting on the  10-01-2012, I will be doing the command and help out with what ever is needed to be finished.

We have 307 males and 50 females, I would like to split the females up into 2 shipments. They will be 2 weeks apart to give the first round time to travel.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE HAE BIG RED HEART IS ON EACH BOX. This will help them to be able to pull the boxes just by sight. If you don't have them let Sue or I know and we will send you the file to print.

Wave 1 of 181 pcs is complete.  A couple of changes in the senders:

remove:  me, Betty, Terry S

add:  Liz - 32, Sue N - 17

To wave 2, add Diane B - 25, Cindy S - 30 and remove ME's 30.

Question, do we need  a firm 357 and the 5 command are extra?

The 357 is the total not including the 5 for command and the contacts. These numbers are enlisted personel only.

Here is a picture of the 20 pc's I'm shipping in the morning.

Birdie, your pcs are beautiful as always!  Thank you!   Reminder, this is the week to mail the 2nd wave.

Maryellen, I have been playing musical "people" again!  I keep getting emails saying they have pcs made so I want to slip them in.

remove:  Mary F 30

add:  Maryellen - 6 +C, Judy K - 25, Carol C - 20, Maxine S - 20

change:  Birdie from 25 to 20.

Cindy, Judy and Carol have mailed.

great job!  how many for the command?

These are the command and what I sent, 7 reg, 3 command and 2 for our point of contacts there is a total of 12 sent

this is from one of our Contacts on the ship.

Ms. Peller,

I’m happy to report, we received the 6 boxes of pillow cases that were sent to us, and it was a HUGE hit. I personally delivered pillow cases to everybody standing watch in what we call the combat information center. I sent a box down to the Engineering watch standers, and I took 4 boxes down to the mess decks during an MWR event last night. Everybody loved them, and asked for e-mail addresses or physical addresses to send thank you letters to the ladies who made the pillow cases. I’ve taken a few pictures on my phone of sailors with their pillow cases. I’m waiting on the 5 pillow cases for the CO, XO, CMC, and the 2 for the POCs, so I can take pictures of us with ours. I’ll upload the pictures to a disc and send them all to you at one time.

Once again, we here on USS Mobile Bay, thank you and everybody involved with Heads at Ease. This was an amazingly successful event for us. Everybody walked around the ship for a couple of hours, showing off what their pillow case looked like. I know one person had a Care Bears pillow case, and he was walking with some extra swagger to his stride, as he showed off his Care Bears. A couple people plan on sending their pillow cases home, because they don’t want to mess them up. That should tell you how far a kind gesture goes out here, and how much we appreciate what you do for us.

On another note, one thing I haven’t mentioned before. I’m a CIWS technician. CIWS is a fully automated, 6 barrel Gatling gun, with search and track capabilities. Its purpose is to engage anti-ship missiles, low flying aircraft, and small boats. We have two gun mounts on board. Last year, while we were on deployment, my work center read a book together named, “A Walk in the Woods.” It was a book about a man and his friend that hike the Appalachian Mountains. In the book, the man and his friend run into a lady, who we all took a particular liking to. We had been looking for names for our gun mounts for some time, and decided to name them after this lady. Her name was Maryellen. The gun mount on the port (left) side of the ship is Mary, and the gun mount on the right (starboard) side of the ship is Ellen. I thought you’d get a kick out of that little piece of Mobile Bay, and hope it brings a smile to your face, as your pillow cases have brought smiles to ours.

Very Respectfully,
xxxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxx
MWR Vice President

Oh Maryellen --- Don't know if anyone else sent Care Bears but I know I did. I am completely choked up thinking maybe that happy Sailor was carrying around my pillowcase. Not sure my picture ever got posted - it might have, I just don't remember. So happy to read such a touching note from the Mobile Bay. Thanks for sharing. Your pillowcases for the command look amazing.
Terry, I sat here and cried, I was having a tough day with the weather here and I was kinda bummed, but it seems God knew when to have the email sent and it made my day. This ship will always have a special place in my heart .

beauitful pcs for the command Maryellen.  That is quite an email from the ship!  Please forward that to me.

Here are your pcs Terry!  I do see a Care Bears in there.

This is a picture of the Crew of the USS Mobile Bay. Yes they know Im posting it!!
