You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in November. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages and Discussions there.

Two other groups you may wish to check out: Boot Camp Moms and PIR Reference Information. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer you to some good links on there.

My son arrived in Chicago yesterday...when did yours leave?

My son arrived in chicago yesterday also.....so proud of them....we sent off a great group yesterday......

My son went to GL yesterday.  We're from PA.  There were about 8 sailors at the MEPS, and he was the only one to fly out of our local airport, the other 7 were taken to Baltimore to fly out.  I asked his recruiter why he was the only one to fly out locally, and he said, there was 1 ticket available, and my son got it, because he'd been in the DEP the longest.  We went to the swearing in at MEPS, and said our goodbyes there.  He called us from the USO at Chicago O'hair.  I wonder what they will all do on Thanksgiving?  I imagine he's as bald as a cue ball by now....he left with shoulder length hair. I just can't imagine him without it.

He will have a nice meal today.  The food is good all the time at GL, but is especially good on holidays.  He will have a little bit of training, but mostly he will be on hold.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone........my first year without my son........hope and pray that he has a nice holiday with his new Navy family............so proud of them all...........proud to be a Navy mom............
I've spent Thanksgiving in boot camp, they do have a good meal and the no talking while eating rule is relaxed a little (well, maybe). They can go to church if they desire, and they may get a chance to relax (sitting on the floor of the barracks, you can't sit on your rack and there are few chairs). They are with 80 other recruits who are alone too, it is a powerful bonding experience.
