Welcome to the Division Discussion for divisions 071 and 072.

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Hi all,

I received a letter today from my son (Ship 12 Div 072) - mailed on 1/7.  He thanks me for the pre addressed envelope (thank you to the Navy Mom who suggested that).  He wrote about the Maline Spike and it seems that his team did pretty well.  He is now supposed to make announcements over the loudspeaker (too funny) and he says this is "forcing him to speak more fluidly."  He never used that word before. LOL  He also notes that the next couple of weeks will get more intense without much time to write.  I'm a happy mom.  Thanks all for your support and being so articulate with how you feel. We'll see you all soon at the PIR.

Maline Spike?  Anyone help me with what that is?

Are you sure it wasn't Marlinspike? The USS Marlinspike, is a ship mockup that the recruits would have to "get underway" in rough and loud pre-hurricane conditions. Replete with loud, howling winds and flashing strobe-lights, the ship under a nearly formidable task for young recruits who in 20 minutes or less, the crew must muster, set the sea and anchor detail, cast off all lines and then get the ship safely underway.  I think they are getting him ready for Battle stations.

Yes - superjames - you got it right on all accounts! Thx for clarification.

The first time I got a pre-addressed envelope back I thought crap, I mailed it to myself, then I remembered. Congrats on the joy we are getting to experience with our young men.  When you describe the letter, your feelings and his activities it makes me realize they are working side by side to accomplish a goal that can only be achieved as a team, and our sons are part of the same team which gives us all a rare but appreciated bond that these little snapshots of life for them is lived through our letters.  Thank you for sharing.

We received your 5th letter today and have had 2 phone call - the last one Dec. 26th   He is in Ship 12, Div 72.  He sounds good.   Indicates that they are in Hell Week this week and that he has been promoted to Master of Arms.  Anyone know what that means?   K

Kathy I posted a reply on the Main Wall of the PIR GROUP in reply to your post on there.

That's my son's ship! No wonder I haven't slept this week. Mom's intuition is not always my friend.

I got a short call from my son on ship 12 division 72 while ago, they cut them shorter than expected and he didn't get to call his Mom so he was a little bummed about that. He said "hell week" was over and they did real well as a division.  He is a little worried because during his dental visit they found a small bump under his gum and scheduled him for oral surgery tomorrow to see what it is.  He told me that he asked his Chief if he could go ahead and keep up with no ASQ time but the Chief said it would be up to medical.  He has done well enough I think it won't be a problem, I just hope the bump in his mouth is nothing harmful to his health.  Just thought I would update everyone.

Hooray for a phone call from our SR today!  He sounded so much better than last time we talked to him (he had a horrible cold).

My SR called his girlfriend last night and she said he hung up to call me but I never got a call so I'm guessing that is about the time they got cut short.  Did anyone get a confirmation as to when they are going through Battlestations?  If so can you please PM me with that info?  As you know we moved PIR dates so the gate pass password is for our old PIR date and I need to ask my SR for it and I'm afraid that he won't be through BS21 before I get on a plane and I'll miss that call.  YIKES!  It's been a long slow wait now that it is almost here I have so much to do!!

Yes, please friend request the BattleStations info to me also.  I'm keeping a schedule.  Remember, we cannot post the dates on this site.
