My son's girlfriend is feeling the same way. My son left for basic Jan 15th. I miss him so much but he is an adult now.
Glad you wrote a letter. I found a website that will send you free phonecards so when he can he will call. It is :callsforrecruits@gmail.com. I t felt good to be doing something
Thanks for mentioning CallsforRecruits.
For others: You can get free calling cards (actually a phone number and PIN) at http://callsforrecruits.org/. Ronny and Anna provide those through that website if you email them at CallsforRecruits@gmail.com and ask for them. They will email you 8-12, but will send more if you need them. Each PIN that is provided is a onetime use number. You can use the form found on the site to write each PIN on for your recruit. Some people print out the form and then cut out the squares and write a PIN on each and staple them together. The recruit can then tear one off to use or give away. If you are able, please make a donation at the site to help with the cost of the cards.
simplyproud and NicksmomWendy, Be sure to point the girlfriends to Girlfriends, Fiances, and Wives of Sailors and Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and the other groups mentioned above. Make sure you and the girlfriends join the PIR group once it has been created.
My son left on the 15th too, we were able to go to the swearing in ceremony which really helped me accept that he was in the right place for him at the right time. But you are right, everything does feel awful right now. I can only hope and have heard from everyone out there that soon the constant crying will ease up and you can start the count down to the PIR and seeing him again. Take care, and know you have support out here =)
Thank u...it does make me feel alot better...and i should be happy not sad coz he left for good reason
It is good to hear you are feeling better. I hope you are able to find something to help you build your strength. Have you found some things to keep you busy? This life does not get much easier, but you will get better at dealing with the distance. You've just got to find a way and a good time to start is now. The hardest part for me was not that I didn't get to see him but that I couldn't talk to him. He is my best friend and not having him around crushed me. You will feel TONS better once you start getting letters from him. You will have something to look forward to each week and you will feel connected to him once again. Think of fun things you can send him like jokes, sports news for his favorite teams, or just interesting news that you think he would like. I would send things like that and my sailor would share it with others. You can do this. It's tough, but the time will pass and you will be in his arms again. Continue to think positive and remember it's ok to cry.
