My son's on PCU 778 New Hampshire, his first boat.
Where is that?
Well, PCU stands for pre-commissioning unit. The New Hampshire will be commissioned Oct. 25 in Portsmouth, NH and home base will be New London (Groton), CT.
My son, Anthony, is MM2 on the USS JEFFERSON CITY stationed at Point Loma (San Diego) CA. Can't wait to visit him and tour the base and his sub!
Hi Julie ~ I just found you. My son has been stationed at Point Loma for 4 years, aboard the USS Asheville. We live in Washington but have visited San Diego many times - it is wonderful! I have been to his departures and homecomings a few times and we did get to tour the sub. Yikes it's tight! His time in San Diego may be coming to an end as he gets ready for shore duty. Any questions about sailors living in San Diego, let me know.
Hi, my son Marcus has been on the Jefferson City 4 years in January.........is trying to decide what to do come May.... I just found this web site - have visited others in the last few years... Visiting the base and the sub is fantastic. Our last visit was when they returned from deployment in March of this year...
My son Kevin Versakos, Jr. is a Petty Officer and is the 3M Coordinator aboard the USS Wyoming SSBN 742 (Gold crew). This is his third boat. He started out as a cook on the USS Baltimore, (the boat is now retired), then came to Kings Bay, GA and was on shore duty. Back again to VA and on the USS Scranton. Then went to Millington TN as a Detailer for all cooks on submarines. Now he is back at Kings Bay and aboard the USS Wyoming (his first "big" sub) in a new job as the 3M Coordinator. He has been proudly serving his country for 16 years.
We moms who are newer to this Navy experience can turn to you for sage advice... after 16 years, you've certainly earned YOUR stripes right along with son's!
My son, Jason is a Sonar Tech on the USS City of Curpus Christi (SSN-705) Homeport: Navel Base Guam. Jason left for Guam after A-school in June '07 and has been over seas all this time. He seems to be having fun and learning a lot. I would love to have him home for Christmas BUT!!!
Dear Melissa, we just found out that Son won't be home for Xmas this year (again). Hopefully, we can see him at Daughter's spring break in March. That will have been a year before seeing him last.

I realize that as much as I hate him being in Seattle, Guam would be tougher still. When did you see him last and when will you see him next? Wish I could buy you a (root?) beer or something... Hugs, Kaye
Dear Kaye, My son is on the USS JAckson, in Seattle. Be prepared. He hasn't been home for Christmas for the entire 11 years he's been in the Navy. He does call as often as he can, though, and his wife and I talk weekly, so I keep involved with my Grandson Nick. they're expecting another baby in Sept. I live in Kentucky and it is cost prohibitive to visit often. In fact, I have only seen Nick twice. That's ok, though, as I know that Kris is happy, and doing a very important job keeping all of us safe. The civilian air carriers should have a heart and provide our guys with reduced ticket prices so that we could see them more than every two years. That said, we know it won't happen! Keep your faith close, as it will provide you with a source of strength for both you and your son. Love, Andi
Kaye I'm so sorry I never replied to your ? I have started catching on to how this site works.. I haven't even checked this group AHHHH I'm learning. I last saw Jason in June 07 when we took him to the airport. I don't no when he will get to come home. Two Christmas's with out him I DONT LIKE IT We would like to go to Guam but our work (being our own business) may not withstand both of us being gone that long.
