My recruit said that one of his petty officers ,who also went as AT to Pensacola, that there is a good possibility they won't fly out till Sunday. Has anyone else heard anything in regards to when flights go out for Pensacola after PIR? Of course I won't set my heart on that happening but I would LOVE it if it did!!

I too am curious about this. My recruit will be going to Pensacloa as well. PIR on 11/22. I do not know how many days to plan to be there. We will travel from Calif. Any input would be appreciated. I am very overwhelmed right now. We do not travel by plane much so this is a chore for me.

They usually depart on Saturday, but Sunday is not impossible. Unfortunately, there is no way to know until your sailor has travel orders in hand.  There is just that much variation.  You could choose to stay the extra day, and just visit Chicago yourself if they fly out.

when do they get their orders?

We are flying in Thursday midday and staying in great lakes Thursday and Friday night then spending Saturday and Sunday night in Chicago. We are flying back to California Monday evening.

Check your My Page.

Were driving but were staying until Sunday just to make sure.

After the event on Friday, they will more than likely get liberty, which means they can go off base until later that evening.  My son graduated on 1/31 and he had liberty as his flight out was going to be Saturday morning.  He went and is, in Meridian.  We got to spend the day with him and we met him at the airport and sat with him until they loaded up onto the plane.  Then we drove home.

He had liberty this weekend so I went to Meridian to pick him up.  He had Saturday off, but had watch on Sunday.  He should know about his A-School arrangements on Thursday or Friday before he graduates.  One kid in my son's Division was going to Pensacola and he flew out at 5:00 pm on Saturday.  Had to be back on base Friday night.

When it comes to travel it will depend also on when their A school starts. but count on them flying out on Saturday.

When the Sailor classes up for "A" School has nothing to do with when s/he will fly out because the Sailors will leave for "A" School the Saturday after PIR if everything is in order and there are no flight availability issues. The Sailor may have holding at the "A" School location, sometimes for weeks to months, while waiting to class up. The only exception that comes up frequently is those who will have "A" School for CS. They typically remain at the THU for up to 4 weeks before flying out to Fort Lee.
