I am a newbie here on this site. I am a nervous wreck mom who just sent my youngest child to boot camp last night. I am just browsing looking at what ever info I can get. He's in Chicago and for a young man from an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean who has never ever been away from his family...I am so nervous for him and myself! I am proud of his courageous choice but still scared! I hope all goes well for him & all other young men & women who are in boot camp right now! Thanks for letting me rattle off here!

New here also, with a daughter who shipped out on the 24th of Sept.. My youngest also, and now an empty nest. Just got her clothes today and am washing them as I type. I know my daughter will be fine and your son also. We are a close family who lived in the boonies of Alaska most of the girls life, but you were right when you said it was a courageous choice. They will be just fine. Take care.

Thank you Sonia for your reply! Yes they all will be fine! I just needed to rattle off some nerves! Thanks and god bless!
New here too we got our 10 second phone call about 7:45 tonight. Is it normal that I can't seem to stop crying. We have always been very close. Its so empty here without him.

It has been over a week since I saw my girl off and today was hard on me. I started to cry; ME, all by myself. I miss both of my girls, one in the Navy the other the Coast Guard. I think tears are okay when our children have spread their wings; tears and a fierce pride for what they are doing. That is what I think.

Hi bluedragonflyz.  My son is leaving on the 18th and I'm experiencing such grief that I don't know how I'm going to stand it.  I guess I'm hoping you'll tell me it got easier as the days passed  You are about half-way through now.  Has your son been able to call you since the 10 second call when he arrived.  People talk about sending phone cards so that leads me to believe I might get a couple of additional phone calls.

Oh my gosh.  My son left yesterday for Chicago and called last night.  I can't stop crying either!  Your son has been gone longer.  Is it easier now?  I don't know how to live without him :-(

Hi My son left Oct 21st, he went to Meps by himself, he didn't want us with him and the next day he went to the airport and was on his way.  I got the 10 second scripted call.  I spent the next 2 days crying, I still cry everyday.  I got my first call from him Nov 2nd.  I was so happy, we only got to talk about 5 minutes, but it was the best 5 min of my life.  He sounded so good on the phone, i was prepared for the oh my gosh what did i get myself into, i was ready for the tears all that.  But he was strong and sounded great.  He was tired and sore but that is to be expected.   I thought i would be better and i guess i am, i am more funtional now lol..but i still cry.  He and I are so close, as he tells his friends, I am his best friend.  I didn't see this coming, it was out of the blue and very out of character for my son.  He was such a hometown kid, who loved just being with his friends and family.  Everyone says it will get better but my heart still aches.  I know we have to let our kids spread their wings, which i did, he did have his own apartment and doing his own thing.  I guess its just the moving away and no contact that is the hardest.  Message me anytime and maybe we can get through this together!!  Just keep reading and finding out as much as you can about what he will be doing.  Always be upbeat with him on the phone, you can do it.  I did, hold the tears back until you hang up if you can.  Good luck

Does anyone know how long it will be until we receive the address to mail letters, once they arrive in Illinois?

My SR arrived at BC Oct 1, the KIB arrived Oct 9 and the form letter arrived 10/11 if that helps.  My SR's div was not allowed to write letters home until the second Sunday.  They have to select and train a mail PO in each div before the mail from home can be distributed.  My first real phone call was on Sat Oct 12.  Some moms have called their recruiter for the address before they received the form letter, but I'm not sure their letters were received any earlier.  I hope this info helps.

Have a Navy strong mom day!

This information is really helpful.  Thank you.  So you must be getting ready for graduation!  Congratulations and please tell your SR thank you!

Debbie

Debbie,  no problem at all.  It definitely does get better the second half of BC.  and yes, we are counting down the days till PIR - 19 days!  yay!

Have a lovely day!

Island Mom, Thank you for your help.  What is PIR and how do I join?  Is there a number that I need to know to join?  I noticed that you gave me such wonderful, helpful, positive advise and see how far you have come?!!!  I am proud of you, Navy Mom!

Debbie
