Ok Moms, I need some ideas of what my son could use for Christmas. He has a leave date in July 2014 and feels like there is nothing he needs to have because he will be leaving for the Navy. Do you have any great ideas of things they could use while in bootcamp or their A school?

In boot camp (bc) he wont be able to have anything that isnt Navy issued A school he will earn the items as he goes along so he is right he won't necessarily need anything right now...So how about a promise note for homemade cookies when he gets to his first duty station or for now an evening out with family or friends at his special spot.
Definitely get him a gift of time and people to use before boot camp. A getaway with buddies, a day at a funpark, lasertag, that sort of thing.
After boot camp, a watch he can wear in uniform (plain black, I like the G-shock).
At A school, he won't need much and it will need to be portable. A laptop or tablet for personal entertainment. Can't be used for school, so something which will stream videos well.
Don't know if this will help, but my sons 20th birthday was 1 week before he left for boot camp 10/29 right before Halloween. Since he didn't want anything I asked if he wanted to go or do anything special. He said he wanted to go to the haunted houses with me. I asked him if he wanted me to pay for some of his friends and him to go. We ended up going Halloween night, to two of them, with one of his really good friends that we have know since preschool. He loved it!! and it will be a great memory for the both of us forever.
Thanks for the ideas! Can they use their ipod and cell phones once they get to A school?
that is a privilege earned but yes eventually
I bought my the a Sailors Bible before he went to bootcamp. It was one thing that he could have while he was there and he really appreciated it a lot.
Realize also that you can gift via the NEX, or navy store. They have set it up now to where you can gift from there. Admins? Do you have the link?
You can go to https://shop.aafes.com/scs/default.aspx to get a NEX gift card.
Hi...he won't need anything in boot camp but I sent cookies and goodie boxes to A school....subway gift card they have those on base....enjoy next few months with your son!
I posted in the general forum too, but not sure you will get it there! Sorry if it is a duplicate!
I would get him an engraved money clip, my son graduated from boot camp on the 22 of November and he immediately said he needed a money clip. The dress uniforms have very small pockets! Once he left base for liberty we went to the mall and I got him his money clip and had it engraved! He was thrilled!
A watch is always a good idea. My son's grandma got him one for graduation.
My son is at A school in San Antonio and is going to be a Corpsman, he has asked for a Keriug Coffee maker because they aren't allowed anything in their room with a burner and he likes his coffee! LOL:) The other thing that is always good and practical (yes impresonal) is money. My son has only been in San Antonio for a week now and he has spent over $40 on cab rides. He has gone to the mall and the River Walk. He says it is pretty cool there.
Best of luck to you! Happy Holidays!
