How important is it to go to the meet and greet the night before PIR?   I will be coming in from Rockford, IL.  I was just going to come in Friday morning before the ceremony.  But now I'm wondering if I should come in to the Meet & Greet?  There seems to be so much to learn before I even go to PIR.

If you are able to go, then go. It is good to get to meet some of the other loved ones, but it is not mandatory. It is a fun time no matter which one of the three you go to. Sarge's (PIR 01/17/14 SARGE'S MEET AND GREET) has the best information and some say the best food as well. Ramada Inn (PIR 01-17-2014 Meet and Greet) has been doing it the longest, but there have been complaints that the room is smoky. Flanagan's (not posted in the Events, but it is every week there is a PIR) starts around 3 and goes well into the evening and they give out a free Navy Mom T-shirt. There is info on how to plan your weekend in PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend. You may want to get a hotel for Thursday and maybe Friday even though you live about 1 1/2 hours away. The roads in the wee hours of the morning may be icy and having a hotel would let you be more rested when you arrive at the RTC around 6 to 6:30 am. You live outside of the 50 mile limit so you cannot take your Sailor home and he may just want to chill out some and having a hotel room on Friday would permit that. Also, you probably want to spend time with your Sailor before he flies out and give him his cell phone and perhaps some of the other things mentioned in  Break down week by week and having a hotel room Friday night would be a little closer than your home. There may be flight delays that would let you spend more time over the weekend with your Sailor.  Those are my thoughts on that, but you have to consider what will work for you, your family, and your budget.

I just checked, and we are 63 miles away - so close!  His best friend is 50.1 miles away lol  My son - Cody, is going to A School at Great Lakes as well.  I made a mistake when I joined that other group.  There is so much information that this is confusing.  I think that we are going to get a room.  But I need to get them booked.  That way, we're there.  Monday, Jan. 20 is Martin Luther King Jr's birthday - which is a Federal Holiday.  Cody is supposed to start A School that day.  Do you know if he will have liberty on that day or not?  Thank you for all of the information.

Also, did I get number 3 changed?  Is that the privacy settings?

Yes, you changed it. Yes, if he stays in GL he will have Liberty on Monday also. What is his rating going to be? I'll leave similar info for you on your My Page as I did for MA (I removed that since you said that was an error).
