Hello everyone,

I just have a few questions about why it's taking me so long to get a date for MEPS and was wondering if anyone had any advice as to what I should be doing in the meantime.

I started the enlistment process January 2012 but I had to lose about 20 lbs. I did that no problem. After that I went and did all the other basics like take my ASVAB and start gathering and releasing medical documents since I had two previous surgeries. We sent all of my paperwork off to MEPS in mid to late April, and I STILL don't have a date. It's been one problem after another. At first they wanted more documents, then they said we had duplicate documents, and now I have no idea what we are waiting for.

Has this happened to anybody else? Or does anyone have any advice as to what I should do?

From what I read, the Navy has more applicants than slots to fill; therefore, the qualifications (physical, academic, medical, etc. etc.) are much higher than in previous years. I would GUESS that perhaps more qualified candidates have emerged ahead of you. You'll have to be patient. I would recommend keeping plugging along with your application. Don't neglect your studies. Continue with your physical training. Finally, look for alternative career paths as a backup.  Good luck.

Thank you, that's pretty much what I've figured but I was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat. Thanks a lot for the help and advice. :)

Remember if it doesn't work out w the Navy, there are plenty of career paths out there. It's just one bump on the road. You lost 20 lbs to try and get into the Navy. Use the same discipline and drive when you identify other goals. Keep going forward. Keep trying your best. Often when you don't reach something but you give it your all, you look back and realized you had actually accomplished a great deal. Keep a good positive outlook and attitude. Appreciate the process. Learn from it. Sorry - I am being a bit "grandmotherly" .. :)
