My son will be leaving for boot camp on July 9th. I am trying to plan a party for him but having trouble coming up with ideals. Can anyone out there please help me? The party will probably be towards the end of June.

Thank you in advance.

I had the ole anchors away party but in hind sight I would have done a no-technology theme party.  Including, of course, games and ideas on how to handle not being connected with everyone you know all the time!

FYI

"Anchors Aweigh" not "Anchors Away"

Something I saw (and will be doing for my son who leaves in August) is to find the Dr Suess book "Oh the places you'll go" and have everyone sign it somewhere in the book.  My son graduates high school in a couple weeks and I am going to have the book out for people to sign since not all these people will be here for the "Anchors Away" party.  Then, when graduates boot camp, I plan on giving it to him.

I had one for my son and it was a patriotic theme.  I even had guest wear military t shirts and camo clothes. And since its near 4th of July you wont have any problem getting patriotic decorations

Here are some picture ideas that I have saved on my Pinterest Board in preparation for my son's Anchors Aweigh party.

Great treat for Anchors Aweigh Party  Navy Party

The flag draped on the chair is making me twitchy.  I have a thing for flag etiquette ever since boot camp.  Most people don't know, I understand that, but still, I cringe a little.

Oriental Trading has some pretty good nautical party supplies.

I love the flag fruit decorations and the candy jars. I have to get moving on my son's party soon. Just ordered his graduation/enlistment party invitations. When he had his senior pics done, we were able to have him do poses in his NWU's and Dress Whites for Sea Cadets. I think these two turned out the best :)

Great pictures!  You should have party favors made up with those on them, like keychains or magnets for the guests.

Those are great ideals. Thank you. I may have to use a few of them:-)

Hi,

My Name is Debbie first time on Navy For Moms My daughter leaves July 28, been trying to get some ideals. I love the ones you posted! I've already order the wristbands, T-Shirt for everyone to sign. Getting a journal, postcards made up of the family. Have flags and other decorations. I'm just beside myself just talking about the whole thing of her leaving.
She my best friend and I'm going to miss her terrible. Will it ever get any easier? I have read some of the comments everyone has written. And OMG everyone is just great! I know its going to be very hard for my husband and myself she was our miracle baby the one we weren't suppose to have. I'm already crying I know I have to be strong!!

Debbie

I set out baskets of notecards, envelopes, and pens and asked people to write something for me to send to him at boot camp. Some were funny, some were inspirational. I send him a few every week and he says he enjoys getting them because he never knows who it will be from or what it will say.
