My son leaves for boot camp on the 21st of this month. Just 2 weeks away! And I have some questions that I can't find answers to. Is he allowed to have his wallet? I want him to keep a list of addresses so he can mail letters to whomever he wants. How soon might I be able to hear from him, either by letter or by phone?

Also, I read somewhere that each recruit is only given 4 tickets for graduation. Is this true? My husband seems to think that most parents don't go to graduation, whether it's true or not, I'm going. It's too expensive to fly and it'll take half a day or so to drive there. So we'll get there the day before and get a motel room. After graduating he'll be going to A-school. How much time after graduation does he have to spend with us? Would he be able to spend the night with us at the motel? Also, is he able to bring anything with him to A-school? His phone, laptop, game system and games?

Sorry for asking so many questions. I'm sure as it gets closer I'll have even more!

Thanks for any help you can offer. :)

My son left for BC last week. I bought him a simple black wallet with cash, stamps, picture of family, ATM card or deposit slip, SS card, also a phone card. I also sent him with address book, as well as stationary. Upon arrival you get a scripted 20 second phone call, then supposedly no phone call for three weeks. Some divisions call with good behavior with the group earlier. You will get his returned belongings and form letter usually within two weeks. In the form letter it will have his address.

4 tickets for graduation. I will be going t graduation, I cant speak for others.

That is all the information thus far I know. I know also in A school they can have some belongings. If you research some links on this site it also gives you these answers more in detail.

That "call in 3 weeks" can be before or after that. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and Phone Cards and Phone Calls.

There are no tickets; your recruit will place up to 3 or 4 names on the Access List depending on the size of the TG. Most are able to have 4 guests this time of year.

Yes he may keep his wallet!!!!!

Some recruits get flustered as they are packing and just put in everything in the hurry to get "the box" packed in the short time they are given. Those who put the wallet in the Valuables Sock first usually end up with it.

Do you know where he is going to A school?  If it is in Great Lakes, you will have the weekend with him, minus the time it takes to check into the TSC side of the base, and weekends.  If that is the case, he can take his phone and laptop back to the barracks that evening.

If it is elsewhere, he will probably fly out on Saturday morning, and would spend Friday afternoon/evening with you.   You would give him his electronics at the airport.

Hold off on the games and game system until he gets to A school and gets a feel for the roommate and study situation.

Thanks so much for all of your help! I wrote it all down. I'm going to check out all the sites that were suggested. I'm so glad a forum like this exists!
