Today was the day, and he left around 11:30 this morning.  I am bursting with pride for him, and very proud of the young man he has become.  But, man, am I sad for myself.  It was so very hard giving him that final hug and turning him loose.  For 20 years he has slept under my roof.  All I can think about is how fast those 20 years went by, and that although he is ready, I was not.  I know it will get better for me...I just hope it's soon.  He got teary-eyed when he hugged me good-bye, and that just tore me up inside.  He may be all grown up, but when I look at him I still see my little boy.

Thank you for listening.

My daughter (19) also left on Monday the 15th of June.  She did not arrive until Tuesday due to weather issues in GL.  I was not home on Friday when her personal items arrived home, so I now have to wait for Fed-Ex to redeliver them.  We did not receive the official phone call that she had arrived safely, however, I knew that she did.  I completely understand how you feel, sad, happy and proud all at the same time.  I really miss her.  We raise our children to be strong, independent, responsible young men and women.  It shouldn't be this hard when they leave the nest, but it is.  Hope your feeling better soon.

It's just a mixture of emotions.  It's getting better, but there are moments.  This is what we prepare our children for...independence.  I think tho in the process we forget to prepare ourselves.

I know these feelings well. I am so thrilled for and proud of my son. He has wanted to join the Navy for 3 years! But that last hug though, I swear he stole a piece of my heart and took it with him. Probably was one of the worst days I've ever had. However, in the days that followed it has gotten better. I no longer feel the urge to cry at random times over random things. This website/group has been so good for me. He left June 9 so we are just a couple weeks into this. Go find the Navy recruits page on facebook. We were blessed with an unexpected picture of my son. Hang in there! We will all get through this.

That last hug...when I saw he had tears well up, I almost didn't let him go.  Wow, it was hard.  He's never been away from home like this.  The days have gotten better for me, but I have my moments.  I just feel edgy sometimes.  I love this website!!!  Without it I don't know what I would do!  I've seen the pictures that were posted last Friday...I sat and poured over them...thought I might have seen him in one, way in the back, but it was hard to tell.  I would be so thrilled if I could see him!!!

Where did you see the pics? I would like to see them, maybe I might see my daughter in them?

There is a facebook page called U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command.  They occasionally post random pictures.  Go 'like' them on fb!  Their newest pictures is from June 20, 2015.  Good luck!  I hope you see your daughter!

I saw them too!   I must have searched each one 1000 times!!  :)    But I don't think mine was in there , it was just his first week.  I will be searching the next batch that comes out though!!!  :)   Understand the last hug, just about tore me to pieces!!!

I scrutinized each one...I thought I saw him three times lolol...they all look alike in those uniforms and hats!  The first two, my daughter said, 'no mom, that's not him', but the third she said, 'ehhhhh, could be??'  I looked through about 3/4 of them, then had to set it down...started seeing double lol!  I'll go back and look some more tonight with fresher eyes!  It would help I suppose if I knew his division, but since yesterday was his first full week, I don't have that information yet.

Looked thru the pics again, and the one I think is him, I've had three other family members look at, and they think its him as well!  He's standing (marching) in the back, so it's not a close-up...but it looks like him!!  If not, then I'm fawning over someone else's child lolol!!!  But even his grandma thinks its him...

Hey again!   Are these the pics they sent out on June 20th, of each division marching, on the U.S Navy Recruit Training Command FB page??   I haven't seen any others?   If your son is in there mine should be too!!   Sure wish I could see him!

Yes!  Those are the pics!  There are so many on there from June 20 that they all start to look alike after a while!  Oh gosh, I wish I could help you look, but I have no idea what your son looks like lol!  I just know that feeling of pouring over all those faces, hoping...keep looking, maybe you will spot him!!!  Let me know if you do!!!

I'm about 98% that the young man I'm looking at is my son...jawline is perfect, and he's not a really big guy.  But it is at a distance, and he is in the back, so it is hard to tell.  But...if grandma thinks its him...that's good enough for me!

After looking at the pictures again on my laptop (I had been on my phone), and seeing other pictures of the same group as they got closer to the camera, I have come to the conclusion that the young man is not my son.  Some other momma has a very handsome son as well!
