My son called yesterday and he said I will talk to him again in a couple weeks so I'm sure she will get to call again. I'm Sad for you that u missed her call :(

Thank you Vickie for your kind words.  This is honestly one of the hardest things i've had to deal with as a Mom.  and as i type that i think that makes us a very blessed family , but doesn't help me not miss her any less.

(((Hug))) Aww, I'm so sorry you missed her call.  I know how you feel, because I missed my son's first call home too. I had my darn phone with me always, and the one time I didn't was when he called.  He had left me 2 voice messages, and the 2nd message broke my heart because I could hear in his voice that he was trying to be strong but wanted to cry.  And I cried, hard!  I felt like I had let him down. But I wrote him a letter later that day to explain why I had missed his call, just so he knew that it wasn't intentional and to make me feel better too.

But hang in there, JenG!! Yes, she'll have another chance to call again. And those letters, keep them going to her. Those are so important to them. My son mentioned in a couple of his letters that he'd stay up late just to write those letters, and I knew that was tough for them because they're tired from their long days of PT, and studying, and cleaning, and everything else they do at BC. So write, write, write!!  And her call will come again.  She knows it wasn't intentional you missed her call.  And then before you know it, it's going to be time to head to Great Lakes for her PIR graduation.

((Hug)) again, and God bless you and your daughter and your family!

Was my biggest fear as well.  She called our home phone not our cell numbers and i'm not sure why . I  don't know when they can call or if she will get to call back, ( very frustrating) .  I am so anxious to talk with her.    This is so hard as a Mom to not be able to speak to your child.

I know exactly how you feel, I also missed the first call, as I didn't recognize the number, and it broke my heart, thank God they let her call the very next week twice actually but was because she needed her bank information from our bank. Now I know the first 3 numbers are always 847, she called again this past Saturday and after the crying we talked longer than usual, and when we hung up never thought she would call again so I had my phone on silent, well turns out she called two more times and I didn't answer, so yeah again I felt like such an awful mom, right away I sent her a letter, she told me to please write her everyday, I had already sent like 3 letters and she had barely received them all at one time. Prayers to all the moms out there for strength, patience, and faith. Our kids are pretty awesome :)

They sure are awesome!  Thanks for all the encouragement ladies.  I got another letter from her today and it was longer than a paragraph so that was helpful.  I one concern though.  I sent her with an at&t card and from what she wrote there is no more time on it.  If that is the case can they call collect?

She can buy another card at the NEX.

my son called this past Sunday and we spoke with him for a good 45 minutes.  He didn't have a phone card so I am assuming that they just let them use their phone.  He said he will probably call in about two weeks.  He graduates October 30th.

do we know why they call the home phone?  we had talked that he would call my cel phone ( we had a plan).. for his first call (the- i made it to bootcamp) call. he called the home phone.  i am afraid if he has to call the home phone we will miss all of them.

Your recruit chose what number to call. Perhaps he could remember the home phone number under stress when he was making that call. He will call whatever number/s he remembers. Send him an index card or other small card with the preferred phone numbers of those that he may want to call while at BC. Since we have cell phones with phone numbers stored in them, many of us do not know the phone numbers of our loved ones.

thank you :)

My husband  called at weekend before week 3 started on a Saturday. Its almost an hour long call. It was during the day. i would join your PIR date and people were updating the whole day that their RC were calling and giving everyone a headsup.
