Hello just wondering if any other family members have sent cards with colored envelopes. I had been mailing plain letters up until I got the official form letter ( which just states letters and cards). I was so excited to be able to send a card I didn't even think about the color of the envelope.I knew not to send stickers, glitter ,etc.. just plain cards. I'm so worried now !! Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Sorry, but I can't believe what I just read....... (shaking head in disbelief)

I agree with you CryptoDad.

"Every card each night lifted my spirits." - From my daughter's last letter home before PIR.

That is great. When they told me that, it kind of knocked the wind out of my sails.

Thanks for your response CryptoDad. That's what I've been trying to do for my daughter. I think she will feel the same as yours, that it lifted her spirits . There isn't a whole lot I can do but I can sure do that for her!!

Is it ok to send photos in letters while in boot camp. Also when is it ok to send baked goods?

Photos are okay, not not too may.

Baked goods? Never.  No food items during boot camp.  In A school or later, then yes, that is okay.

Some A school commands do not allow food in the barracks, but most do; your sailor will be able to tell you current policy when they get there.

Thanks for info ! My Granddaughter is in boot camp now ! Thought the pictures would help with homesickness. She just mentioned she missed sweets. I will wait till later.

I just sent a few pictures to my Daughter and I know she will be so excited to get them!
I got a call from her Sat and she said "Mom I get cards and letters everyday... please keep sending them ". It's so silly mow how worried I was about those envelopes !!:)

This might be TMI but if I bring a smile to at least one persons face - it will be worth it.  My ex and I were only 7 days married when he left for basic training.  It was 1983, before the Internet and before any guidelines on proper mail protocol could be discussed.  I sent him a pair of lacy panties with a roll of Wild Cherry Lifesavers attached.  He never complained that this was a problem or that it caused any extra ribbing.  4 years later when I decided to join myself, I went to basic and never received a single letter.  Now as my son enters I would advise that you error on the side of caution but the most important thing is that they at least get mail.  Positive, uplifting, supportive mail.

RetUSAFnowUSNmom, Thank you for your service. I left info for you on your My Page.

I was told no sparkly or glitter!! My boy has been at boot camp for 2 weeks as of tomorrow April 19th 2016. Anyone else as someone there right now?
