A little about me:
Single mother (now remarried), but raised my son on my own since he was 8 months old. He's been talking about the Navy since age 10. He is currently a senior in high school, already enlisted, leaves 8/1/13 for boot camp. I'm very proud but sad for him to leave at the same time. He's been my rock for 18 years and I'm finding it very difficult to let go.
I am here to support my
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy career?
Waiting to leave for Boot Camp
When I heard “Navy,” I...
Was proud and encouraged it

Received the form letter yesterday. Really cheered me up. I am in full swing of making travel arrangements for my son's PIR on October 11th. Now I can't wait to get a letter from him. I mailed the 3 letters I had already written  this morning. I have so many questions, mainly I just want to know how he is doing and if it is everything he expected. He has wanted to join the Navy since he was 10 years old and now he's there! Can't wait to hear all about it. Hope everyone has a great day!

Missing him badly

My son left for boot camp on the 15th. Got my 10 second phone call Thursday evening. Drives me crazy that I can't just pick up the phone to call or text him. Everyone says I should be proud, which I am, but I'm also a mother who worries and loves her baby boy. I can't wait for October to get here so I can see him again!

I see that your SR will be staying in GL for "A" School, so join Great Lakes A School Q&A and GL A-school moms. You can also check out the Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes Facebook Page. You will be able to enjoy extra time with your Sailor following PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend.) What will his rating (job/specialty) be? There are groups for many of the raitngs with "A" School in GL.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones); I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect while you have a recruit and to help you prepare for PIR. Since you have an SR at the RTC, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to "Enlisted." Join Cardinal Navy Company of August 15, 2013 and PIR 10/11/2013 TG 48 to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
