Tina_Proud Momma there is subway, Taco Bell, P.F. Chang’s, and Pizza Hut in the food court. That was a couple years ago, but Taco Bell and Subway are at pretty much every base, they have extensive contracts with the military. There is a stand alone McDonalds across from the galley as well that I can’t imagine has gone anywhere. Off base there is the usual chains. There’s a target and a Walmart pretty close to base if you wanted to grab any for shopping as well. Gift cards for transportation, like uber or lyft, are probably the best to have too. The train station is across the street to get to Chicago, but there’s also tons of stuff to see/do locally, and public transit in North Chicago (Great Lakes) is seriously lacking.

Hi everyone. My daughter will be going to school in Great Lakes and I was going to buy her some gift cards for graduation from boot camp. Does anyone know of what places to eat are on base?

I hope you get in a good visit!  If he knows ahead of time, he can put in a chit for you to be his liberty buddy.  Otherwise, he needs a couple friends to tag along.

Here are the liberty phases:

Thank you Anti M, now I’m hoping he can some liberty for a weekend so we can fly out to see him..

Hold times can be weeks or months.  Hard to say as there can be delays which the sailors aren't aware of.  I've seen holds because they were waiting for an instructor to transfer in, for a broke heat main in one of the older buildings, and just oddball stuff like that.
