WeAreNavy everything he needs will be available at the student NEX on base, and they’re usually pretty lenient on the weekends about letting parents purchase items for their new sailor. There’s also a target and a Walmart nearby if you prefer.

Like Anti M said, best bet is to wait and learn the rules, but a couple things to keep in mind when you get there are shirt stays to keep his sheets tight and lint rollers, they’re a lifesaver for collecting lint and crumbs out of the carpet and off his rack.

There is not a list of things they need for A School. What they need is supplied.

In addition to what your Sailor may have requested you bring, he may end up wanting a soft blanket Those wool blankets are not very warm or soft. A fleece blanket that doesn't take up much room when folded and can easily be stored each morning. Don't send a quilt. :)

As school goes on more things may be wanted, but there shouldn't be anything needed per se.

No, there's no formal list.  They need to check in and find out the rules for their particular barracks.  Whether they can have personal bedding, if they can have food, if it needs to be in containers or not.  But pretty much everything is supplied.  They may need laundry detergent, but it is best to wait and find out.  You can go shopping on Saturday or Sunday once they know their needs.

Hi! Is there a list of items SR’s need for their barracks in A School, verses the personal items SR requested I bring to PIR?

Good Morning Ladies! I am proud to say that my son has finished A School at Great Lakes and has moved on to his 1st duty station! Conveniently it is located near his brother. I'm so excited for his new adventure. He actually stopped in and surprised me and his grandmother with a visit before his departure to the new location. I want to thank you all for being so supportive in this journey and for those just joining and those continuing on with Great Lakes I wish you and your families the best of luck. It's a great sacrifice for our families, but the reward is to serve and protect.
