Hello,  My name is Debbie and my daughter Aolani left for bootcamp on Aug 18th.  So she is 2 days into the next stage of her life and all I can think about is what she is doing every minute of the day.  My biggest fear is that she is emotionally ok.  The physicall part I have no worries as she was very well prepared physically.  Emotionally she was ready to leave and begin her career however me as a mother I worry about her emotions.  Typical mother I guess.

I laid my phone down next to my face the night she flew to ORD and tossed and turned waiting for the phone call.  She sounded GREAT.  She sounded excited and that made me feel better.  How do mothers and fathers get thru each day wondering what there child is doing.  Did they get enough sleep?  Have they cried?  Are they in control of there emotions?  Are they OK?

Graduation?  When will I know the actual graduation date so I can prepare for travel arrangments.

Thanks everyone mom for there support and GOD BLESS!

Don't worry: You shouldn't be sending mail until you receive the form letter anyway.

I know the feeling!! My son left on Aug 11th. I cried for a week straight. Soooo proud of him but it is so hard as a mother to look in their room and see all there stuff...everything....but they are gone.  It takes some time. It is two weeks tomorrow and I am finally starting to feel better.  Still cry here and there. Like when I pulled out the laundry in the dryer and it was his whole load of wash that he did before he left. Whaaaaaa... Anyway I can tell you it gets better.  So hard to let go after mothering them for 18 years. You are not alone!!!  Best of luck to your girl!

P.S. Still waiting on that first real phone call where I can actually talk to him!!!  Soon I hope!

Debbie,
My son left the same day and I know exactly how you feel.  I got his form letter in today's mail with an address and grad date, so hopefully yours will be there very soon!  I just keep thinking that no news is good news and I read everything I can find on here to give me an idea of what he's doing now.

you have no idea how happy I was to read this thread.  I have all the same questions, feelings and this was so great to read and not feel so alone !

my son has been at boot camp now for exactly 4 weeks. the first two seemed to be the hardest of my life.  I knew in my heart he was fine but there was a hole in my heart as well with him gone.  To say that I don't cry at least ever other day would be a lie ... but it does get easier.  I literally contemplated duct taping my phone to my body the third week because I knew he would call and he did. And yes - the wait for the first letter is another story!!!  Things go through your mind like never before - wondering did I prepare him right? Could I have done anything different?  Is he sad? is he regretting this decision - and then you will find out that everything is most likely ok.  But man that "mom thing" that is inside of us is so powerful and feels overwhelming at times but you just have to ride it out and give it time.  Use this website as much as you can - it helped me feel " not crazy" the first few weeks.

Thank you everyone for there comments.  I received my daughters box on Monday 24aug however not received any letter from her.  I keep wondering how come other people received there official form already in the mail with graduation info already and mailing address.

Waiting patiently

I just received my son's box today.  They had tried to deliver it yesterday, but, it required a signature.....  Waiting.....rather impatiently.....for an address.....

I received my sons form letter 10 days after he arrived at boot camp

I know how you feel my daughter Brandi was shipped Aug. 17 , I thought I would be a pro since its my 2nd time , my son graduated boot camp March 2013 and doing so well in the navy. On the day we took her to MEPS  I was the emotional one and she was  comforting me and said that not to worry she will be ok and she is ready , that gave a lot of comfort knowing that she is ready whatever comes her way. I miss her terribly and think of her all the time. Lucky me my son got stationed 3 hrs away and took time off to spend time with me. Proud of my daughter and son...Btw Brandi is 17 so young and ready to serve her country...I am a very proud Navy Mom. Go Navy!!

My son just arrived at RTC last night. I must admit that this is probably one of the hardest things I have every had to go through because I'm missing him like crazy. I think about him constantly, wondering what he is doing and how he is feeling. He is strong, I know he can do this with no problem...but it's hard to admit that my role as a parent is changing. I'm in more of a supporting role now and he is learning to take care of himself and stand on his own. But I am SO PROUD of the man he is becoming!!!

I completely understand ! hand in there, I am one week today that he is gone and I miss him terribly.  Start writing letters and get ready to send them, I hope to get my form letter today.

Hang in there

Kimmy

Mine arrived last night too. Did you get a call
