Hi!! All, i don't often chime in but i do read the discussions. I Thank God, i found this site, i have learn so much from all of you. Thank You!!! My son is an ETN3,close to graduating from Nuclear Power School in Dec. I'm starting to get stress out, he just told me that, his instructor said,"if you requested Ballston Span for Nuclear Power Training(Prototype), you are going".  I was already planning on going to the Graduation, and now he wants us to help him move, right after. Thank God , I'm on vacation that week. My head started spining with all sorts of questions. I hope you all can help me, with them. Any information you may think is helpful pls, chime in, any guidance is wellcome. Thank You!!!

Question 1. Would it be best/Economically to drive or fly?

                  2. How much would he be provided for housing in Ballston Span?

                  3. Where can i start searching for housing?

                  4. Are there any special sites/informational boards for them to look into for items other nukes are selling or just don' neeed anymore?

                  5. Are there any other Nukes, graduation on the 3rd week of Dec,which are also heading to Ballston Span? Would love to connect with you.

Driving allows you time together, and an easy way to move his larger things if he doesn't want to do a packout.  He needs to find out how to get reimbursed for doing a DIY move beforehand, so he will know what is required.  If the paperwork is done right, the Navy reimburses gas, hotels, food, up to certain amounts.

Find out the local zip code, find a BAh calculator online, and that will tell you the housing allowance for the area.

AHRN.com is a good start.  Normally they get there, join up with friends and find a place.

Why not let him figure this out?  It is good practice as an adult.  All the other nukes have to do this on their own.  I know you're trying to be a good mom, but honestly, it comes off as a little overinvolved.  He's a nuke, so he's smart.  Let him handle it, he'll do great!

Also, my nephew is an instructor there just now.  I will ask if there's a message board or FB group. Nukes are notoriously not present online, so maybe not.

Thank You!! Anti M, for your input, i really to appreciate. Yes, you are definatly right, i should let him to this on his own. I just like to get info for him and pass it along, Unless he ask for help, then i do.

Yeah, because so many go all at once, to one of two places, they get a ton of information and band together to get it done. Sometimes they even decide who they want to room with before they get there.  It all works out.

BAH is 1449 for an E-3 for zip code 12020.

LadyBug3 - you definitely want to post this in the nuke moms group - It's a very active group and I'm sure you'll get lots of responses:

My son did prototype in Ballston Spa and there is a wonderful apartment complex that many Sailors live in - The Winners Circle in Saratoga.

There's also a Ballston Spa group - it's not as active as the Nuke moms group but there is some good info in the discussion forum:
