Since we are now able to send packages, wouldn't it be great if we shared our creative ideas of what we intend to send to our sailors?

My daughter is newly stationed at Goose Creek. I'm glad I found this site. My navigating skills around this area are rough. Any suggestions about how to communicate more efficiently?

CJ's Mom, it will be ok and remember, we are here for you. A school is going to be ok for us. Not only do we have each other, but on this journey, we also have our kids via cell phone calls, text messages and videos via lap tops. This is going to be a walk in the park.
Hang in there!
Jacque, safe travels to you tonight. ((hugs))
I wish all of our sailors safe travels, as well
Cindy, thanks so much for the update on E. It sounds like he is doing enjoying it and doing well. We are leaving for the airport in about an hour to take my A back. I'm already crying, even though I know that communication will be much better, I think I was spoiled by having him here this week.
Donna, that is funny about how his flight is going. lol My ((hugs)) to you tomorrow.
Lori, ((hugs)) to you today. I know that the packing up is just as hard to see as them actually leaving. I think my A is just taking his laptop, cell phone and Ipod touch. He asked me to send his civvies because they can't wear them for a couple of weeks anyway. He said his seabag is totally full and can't get any civvies in it.
Penny, ((Hugs)) to you. I am saying goodbye to my boy today too.
Kathy, so sorry that you sailor came home sick. I understand how hard it is to be so far away from them, my son is going to Pensacola and we are in NM.
Wendi, that's good to know that they don't charge for up to 70 lbs.
Kim, that keychain sounds pretty cool. Where did you get it? I would love to get one for my son too.
Well, my news is that A is leaving this morning. Yes, I'm a mess. I have told him to call me everyday, even if it's only for 5 minutes. He said ok, so I think he realizes how much he will miss us too. He is still sleeping and he has slept so well in his own bed, that I won't wake him he has just enough time for his shower. He is all packed up already. My husband also leaves this morning to go back to Maryland. :( I have my wonderful memories of our last Christmas in NM (I hope to be back in Maryland with my husband in the spring) and those memories will have to hold me for awhile. I do plan on visiting A in Pensacola in the spring, so the desire to see him again is coupled with the excited anticipation of that trip. This goodbye is hard because I now know the feeling of not seeing him every day, but I am also excited about the fact that we can talk and text everyday. That keeps me going, along with the thought that I know each and every one of my friends on here, will be there for me too. :) I love you all. My hugs and kisses go out to each of you as you prepare for the next step.
((Hugs)) to all of you that have to say goodbye to your sailors today and tomorrow!! I am hoping this post will take the "bight" out just a little bit!
My E called last night...he said "A School is NOT Boot Camp!" They have a refrigerator in their room, a microwave and can have TV's, Video Gaming Systems, Lap Tops etc...so SEND what they can carry :)! They were fed on Christmas by the local ISO a wonderful Ham and Turkey dinner with all the trimmings. All of the Sailors that are at NATTC had Liberty all week-end, so "E" watched movies and got caught up on sleep and is feeling MUCH BETTER :)! As like you Kathy...that nasty bug he brought with him made its way through our house too...from his little brother first, and now me I have been sick the entire week-end....and still feel horrible!
Ladies, it is wonderful when they are at A school...they can communicate much more often with their Cell phones, lap tops etc. I get regular texts daily, and a phone call usually every other day. E said his schedule will be Classes until around 2 then IT for 2 hours then has the night off to study...a "watch" will be thrown in there from time to time, but much more relaxed Boot Camp. They do their own laundry now (he's use to that since he was the laundry PO in Bootcamp)...they need to provide their own detergent though (thought for a care package)!
Thinking of all of you,
Cindy
Sorry I have been absent from the website for a while. I was so happy to have my son home for a week. Unfortunately, I had to work a regular schedule. I don't get vacation time with a retail job, but I did have time with him. He also came home sick and whatever he had was pretty powerful. It spread through the household quickly from his younger brother, to me and then his dad! We have all been to the doctor except me. I may try to go on Monday when I have time. I wasn't sad about him leaving again for school tomorrow, but I knew I would be right before he left and I am very sad. He was so happy and self confident when he got home. I was proud of him for his acheivement in boot camp and he was proud which meant even more to me. He really came out of his shell. He is, however, a little sad tonight and sat and watched a movie with his dad and I. I know he will grow even more at school. I just wish he were closer or that we were back on the east coast closer to him. I think once he gets to Charleston and gets started in school he will be better. It may take us a little longer. At least this time we can talk to him frequently or by skype. He bought himself a good laptop this past week. He used up a bit of his leave for two months. He should start accumulating more leave after that. I just wish we could see him more. He has been my right hand helper and friend for so long. I will miss him immensely.
So, on a different note ( have to stop crying). . . . . a belated Merry Christmas to everyone and best wishes for the new year to come. Prayers to all of our sailors and their families!
