Now for a comment on the "crying moms" discussion. I always knew that I would be the mom who NEVER recovered after her children left home. Furthermore, I thought I would be unable to function if I ever had to send a child off to boot camp. When my (4) boys were babies, I would get physically ill if I had to be away from them for more than a couple of hours. God has amazingly healed me from my separation anxiety! I only cry about once a week, and a letter from my son usually comes the next day and I feel happy, proud, and excited for this amazingly happy person that I raised (who is enjoying boot camp?)...and I am good for another week! I miss him terribly, but I truly believe that I would be crying much harder if he decided to stay home and do nothing with his life! My husband and I are now encouraging our next son, who is 17, to look into becoming a Navy Corpsman!

Thanks for the voting advice! I called our County Recorders Office and they actually had some advice for me this late in the game...he may still be able to vote because I have his early ballot in my hands...I will let you know if the advice I works.

Edwina, I agree with you as well. I cried but my son never new it. I always wrote to him about what was going on at home, and updated him on sports and printed out the standings in baseball and when football started I mailed him the stats on that. BUT I always told him how much I loved him and missed him. Never told him if anything was wrong because I knew he would worry. But he knows I am a very emotional person but he never saw me crying until I saw him at PIR. Then it's allowed LOL!!!

Myhero, I agree with you. The worst day is the day they leave for BC. I think I cried for three weeks straight. Then you get your first letter and you feel as though you hit the lottery!!!
Reesesmom,I'm so excited for you and the upcoming PIR! I can't wait to hear all about it!

OK Kathy, are we talking baby names yet? :)
Comment by Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom on October 27, 2010 at 1:12pm
...because though they'll always be OUR kids, this isn't like summer camp.
Having enlisted and taken on boot camp they're not 'kids' anymore ;) ...it's really brought home when you see your loved one standing proudly at PIR.
My son was so looking forward to it all that it really helped me. His "I'm here" phone call was excited and happy, and made me feel the same. Letters were funny & featured the word 'cool' a lot. 3 yrs later he is just as happy. This isn't to say that it wasnt hard for me when he left! But I took his attitude to heart.
