I do plan on attending the MEPS on Tuesday. I am sure I will cry, happy about his choice and sad that he is leaving.

Kathy, you're so right. I had (and continue to have!) a good relationship with our recruiting office. Unless your son or daughter is well out of high school and has been on his/her own, I think it's no different than speaking with a college advisor. I believe we're supposed to do our jobs and act as our kids' advocates, as we've been out in the world and workforce, and this is our kids' first experience. Again, some recruiters are less able than others, but that shouldn't stop a parent from pursuing information from anyone in that office. There will be more questions down the road and the recruiting office is the one resource capable of providing certain information. And you bet, honey works a whole lot better than vinegar!

The recruiter told my son to have me call at 4pm today, of course, got vm. I left a message, we'll see if he returns it or not!?!
Apparently they are busy because tomorrow is 9-11 and they are doing some kind of memorial event.

Go to the office. If your recruiter isn't in, speak with whoever is. Any of them can answer your questions. Or call & make an appointment. Take a written list if questions with you. Sounds like you need to speak with whoever is in charge of that office. Not all recruiters are great & time is of the essence; you need to be proactive here.

My son leaves Tuesday as well. He called his recruiter yesterday to tell him I'd like to ask some questions, he said he'd call me back and never did! Luckily this site has provided lots of answers to my questions but I expect a call back!

I just called the recruiter and left a message. I am hoping he returns it.

I would check with him today. If you can, attend his formal swearing-in at MEPS in downtown Phoenix the morning of the 14th, take pictures, and say goodbye as he heads to the airport and boot camp. Other parents will be there and it's quite something!

I only met the recruiter once, I guess I will need to meet him again.

Ryan's mom, have you gotten to know his recruiters? It's a valuable relationship to have, especially during the first year.
