Julie, the Navy Lodges are always great. We stayed at the one by the shipyard last March. Haven't stayed on North Island. You will need your sailor to sponsor you. No breakfast, but there is a little kitchen. Rooms are large. We really liked it.

Phoenix Navy Week 2009
Comment by Melissa (Tucson) on January 30, 2009 at 12:02am
Well, I don't know about "seasoned" but my son was stationed San Diego for "A" school. He was at the Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center on Point Loma (kinda of across the street from the airport).
My nephew is also stationed in San Diego. He's at the 32nd Street base (the BIG base). What base is your son stationed at Julie?

Every year the Navy selects cities through out the U.S. that we normally do not associate with the Navy. Phoenix has been selected for the first Navy Week of 2009, starting March 4 - 11 (I think those are the dates). Do a web search and you can get all the info you want.

Hi Staci,
I figured if I couldn't volunteer there, I could at least track it down. Not sure what you mean about Navy week in the desert.

okay, I decided to do some research on the military room:
It is not thru the USO. They don't have a location in AZ.
It is called the Phoenix Military and Veteran's Hospilitaty Room
phone number is 602-275-1847.
to see the page online, do this:
type skyharbor in the address bar (I couldn't get it doing Phx skyharbor);
click on the link to Phx Sky Harbor Internation Airport;
click on the community link on the home page;
click Military hospiliaty on the drop down menu and the page will come up. There's a few more links on that page for a downloadable volunteer application
and other information.

Vicki,
Our son was sworn in, in Phx. We didn't realize that we could be there. And we probably would've driven up for it.

Staci-that is probably thru USO. We spent some time in the one in Honolulu. It was the meeting place to catch the shuttle to the ship.

It was great-comfy chairs, big screen tv, computers, snacks-some home baked, others store bought, free coffee. I think they had phones too.

go to the USO website, that probably has the information you want.
