Ben has spent his last 2 birthdays on the ship. The first was a training deployment and the 2nd was the real deployment. On the Lincoln, they celebrate all the birthdays every month with a special cake. And you can send him a "party in a box". I sent birthday balloons, napkins etc. He got a kick out of that.

Thanks for the Walgreens tip on the cards. I will get some tomorrow for Molly's adopt a sailor program.
I didn't know about the parking. Ben owns his house. We had planned to drive it this past summer when we were there, but there was a problem with the license, so didn't. I do believe that he put an additive in the gas and didn't leave much in it.

Walgreens has international calling cards, 2 for 1 this week. I picked up 6 for Matt. (They are usually $10 each)

Happy times for you! Give Cory a big welcome home hug from Tucson!
My Dad was a mechanic/machinest and I know gas can go "bad". I'm going to tell Matt when he parks the car for a long time to only leave enough gas in it to get to the gas station. The cooling system would be fine as long as the freon is fresh. And change the oil right before deployment and upon return.
Or have your AAA card ready! lol

Sue:
I was wondering about the car situation. My son's in the Gulf right now but when he returns (in the spring) I'm giving him my car. I saw somewhere there is long term parking on base in Norfolk. Do they charge for it? Would it help to disconnect the battery and add an additive to the gas?

Ben's car sat for 7 months, outside in the Virginia weather. he had to get a new battery, but otherwise, it was fine. Glad to hear you moms are getting to see your sons!

Molly and Staci,
you both rock! great job on getting the ship. Is there a particular kind/brand of phone call that you recommend. I know they are not all created equal lol.
