Hi Alicia in AZ!
From what I remember when my son finished A school in Pensacola,he would have had to pay to difference for the flight home first before going to San Diego. But since AZ is on the way he ended up not needing to pay anything. It was a couple of years ago so things could be different now, but your son might have to pay for his flight home then they pay for him to fly to Mayport.
Hi MommaJ and bananabear, welcome!! We have a Tucson Moms page too :) We will be planning another luncheon sometime in November and will post details there. If you are on facebook and would like to join the group there, feel free to PM me your info and I will send you a friend request through FB :)
MommaJ I hope you are doing well with the first deployment! My son is on about his 6th, I still have a hard time! But my Navy mom "seasters" are a blessing and I am grateful for the support I gt from them!!
bananabear, thinking about your daughter in bootcamp brought back so many memories for me! I formed some amazing friendship through these groups that are still going strong today (my son went to bootcamp November 2011). I would not have survived without these ladies!!
Have a good day all!
My daughter's rating is AD - Aviation Mechanic. She will attend A school in Pensacola, FL
Hi bananabear! What a roller coaster of emotions during the first few weeks of Basic! Staying active on this site and also talking with other military moms really helped me. I came to discover that most people that aren't a military mom/dad don't understand what it feels like when your child leaves. Yes of course I knew it was coming, I was happy for him to start this new chapter of his life, and very proud of him too! But it didn't make me feel any better when I heard him holding back tears the day he (finally) called me three weeks in and I couldn't comfort him and it was hard and no one understood. I didn't want to hear the "at least's" and the "he'll come out a better man" yes I knew all of that but I didn't feel it...yet. The day he called me to say " Mom, I'm a Navy Sailor" is when I felt it. PIR was outstanding if you can make it, if you can't try to watch the stream because its really moving and gives a new Navy Mom a sense of closure and excitement for what's to come. :)
To our new moms - be sure to join groups for your sailor's rating, A school if they're going to one after bootcamp, and city where they will be based. This group has great info about PIR and the admin can answer any questions: PIR Reference Information; also this link for watching PIR every Friday: Watch PIR broadcasts live.
Thanks so much T'sNukeMomMM I will look forward to seeing posting about the get together. My son his on his first deployment out at seas currently.
Welcome, bananabear!!! Yes, I understand how you feel. It is an awesome experience. What is her rating(job/specialty)?
Welcome bananabear! Yep, we know how you feel. But it's a great feeling to know that she's made such a good decision. Are you able to attend PIR, or will you watch it online? What is her rating (job/occupational specialty)?
Hi all, I am new to this group from Tucson. My daughter left for boot camp on September 23rd and I am missing her a great deal!
