Vanya ... my son is there too, on the GW.It sounds like you've said the right things. They are ALL an important part of the effort! Remind him that he is part of a team and they depend on each other for positive outcomes...just like Battle Stations in Boot Camp. ALL sailors have an important role.

My son's ship is part of the 7th fleet that has arrived in the Philippians to provide humanitarian aid.  I am so proud of him. He won't be going boots on the ground as he is what they call a "Deck Ape".  He so wishes he could help the people on the ground and feels he could do so much more.  I have tried to let him know that every job is important, but he still wants to do more. Has anyone's child felt like this? Any suggestions as to what I can tell him to make him realize that he is still helping and that he is still a hero?

Lovefuzzfaces... Welcome! That is so great that your son will be home or Thanksgiving. My son was home for Easter AND Mothers' Day in 2011 between A School and leaving for Japan.

I hope you Tucson mom's can have a get together. There are a few Tucson mom's on the Japan Mom's page....maybe we can get you all connected?

My son comes home for his first leave after completing A school this weekend so he will be here for Thanksgiving. He has done very well but is looking forward to sleeping in his own bed.
