Jane.... If I get there I will make a point of finding ya (:
I've searched Navy Week Phoenix,AZ on here and couldn't find anything.
teachjar....thanks for sharing that! Yes, I bet the kids and teachers really enjoyed and got great satisfaction in helping. Knowing that they enjoyed it and did so with such joy is just as powerful as the giving in itself. I believe when something is given with such joy, the recipient can't help but feel the love that it was sent with. You can be sure that those sailors felt....even if not on a conscious level...the love behind the act. And thank you to people like yourself who organize such an effort and make it happen! Yup, Navy Moms Rock!
ProudGMBarb~During our son's 2 deployments I hounded him until he gave me Sailor names (with their permission) and my classes in my school adopted these Sailors. The kids and teachers enjoyed it more than the Sailors receiving the packages. But it has always saddened me the numbers of Sailors who do not get packages or letters from family or friends. We heard back from many of them and they seemed to enjoy the letters written by the students as much as the treats sent.
Silverado-Great connecting with youi...made my day and look forward to meeting you.
Diane..."adopting" was so kind of you. Well...see...you just proved why the Navy Moms here on N4M's are the Best! May your kindest be returned to you and your sailor many times over.
That's for sure!! It does just seem like it was yesterday they were small. When our son came back from his first deployment he told us one of his buddies never got anything from his family - no emails, cards, boxes or anything. Needless to say, we "adopted" him. We sent him his own box on a regular basis. I can't imagine not sending care packages when they are so far away from home.
Jane....great pics! Hey... 6 weeks... 6 days...6 months....it doesn't matter....we all love seeing our kids whenever we can. And if we can't see our own kids, we love seeing what everyone elses kids are doing! Thanks for sharing.
Teachjar - My son is in BUDs. I'm a west valley mom...how about you? I've seen your name on one of the forums...maybe preBUDS or SEALs forum? Anyway, I'm always looking for Arizona moms too whose sons are in the program. PM me.
Nice you could see a picture of your son, Jane! I remember there was a picture of my son once with a group of guys while they were working on building missles - it was good to see him, too!
I know what you mean about the racks. My son Eric (who now has shore duty - hurray) is 5'11". Tall enough. But one of his best friends is 6'4"! John is no longer in the Navy, as of last November, so he doesn't have to worry about it anymore. His wife and he now have a king-sized bed.
