teachjar and spyder013...you ladies got me chuckling! I told our sailor I am soooo glad he learned how to sleep in one position, because when he was young, he was all over the bed in every position imaginable! What a sight his bed was in the morning! That would never work in the Navy...at least not without a few bumps on the head from falling out of his rack! Dang, seems like just yesterday when they were little guys and gals, huh? Sure glad we have Navy4Moms to share our pride, experiences, worries, and joys, and most of all Navy Mom Support!
Don't you just love the things they miss the most? Moms cooking, a full size bed or Dunkin Donuts for good coffee and donuts! There are many spoiled kiddos out there that should go along on a deployment to appreciate the things they take for granted!
Hi moms, still pretty new at N4M. It is wonderful to see what friendships have formed in this group. My son has only been in for 3.5 years. He had 2 deployments on the Decatur stationed out of San Diego. Now in SQT and I was wondering if there are any moms out there whose son is going through SQt or BUD/S, or has gone through and is a Team? Or possibly has a contract to start? I know there are groups on N4M for these moms but looking for a mom in AZ to connect with that is on this journey. Lastly, to comment on this discussion on parents not attending these special events in their children's lives...as a teacher I am seeing this more often then years before where parents don't seem to think it is all that important. Always makes me sad to hear a child say their parents can't come to an awards ceremony or play etc. These very well could be the same parents that don't attend bootcamp graduation, or commissioning, or even there to welcome their son or daughter home from deployment. What a shame but when we would hear from our son about a situation like this we always would include that sailor in our welcome, congratulate them and even invite them to our family celebrations. There are 3 that have become like family to us and are blessings in our lives!
Anita...Oh my gosh...I agree with you...wouldn't have missed PIR for anything. I realize there may be some good reasons that some folks can't attend...but I'm thinking they are far and few between. I know I should not judge, but those kids accomplish so much in such a short period of time and deserve to have their loved ones there to cheer them on and show how proud they are of them. I'll never forget PIR. Okay, I'll stop now!
Anyway, it was snowing and icy when we were there too. My hubby was on crutches (just had foot surgery)...but he wasn't going to let that stop him either! Was just a tad tricky walking around on the ice for him!
Jane...those license plates would have made me sad too.
BrandonsMom - Great picture. It does bring back memories. My son graduated 6 years ago this past February 4 - and it was snowing, too! Man, was it cold! I went to Burlington Coat Factory before we flew back there and bought a full-length wool coat with a hood. Thank goodness! But I would not have missed it for the world! At the time, I worked with a fellow (Jim) and told him that I was going back to see Eric graduate. He told me his son had been in the Navy, too, and had wanted his dad to attend, but Jim hadn't wanted to go, so he didn't! Can you believe that! I was appalled!
BrandonsMom...I remember that site well, it will be a year on Mar 25th that my daughter graduated boot camp. It snowed the day of her ceremony. No she's on the Nimitz. Congrats to both of you.
BrandonsMom...Oh yes...how can we ever forget PIR! Congratulations to you and your sailor. Wishing him all the best in Nuke school. He picked a tough one...must be a very smart young man. Keep us posted on how he is doing.
