Thanks PGMBarb,

I told her about it being blank in letter I wrote lastnight, will mail it Mon..Might just go ahead and call PA office also.

BDee,

In your next letter, ask your daughter for the password. I think the whole idea of the parking pass is to verify that you have permission to enter and attend PIR.

If you don't think you can get a reply in time from her, you can always call the Public Affairs office at 847-688-2405 and maybe they can give it to you.

Also, when you enter the building there will be tables set up where you will need to show your ID and they will check to see if you are on the list that your daughter put down for PIR guests.  (that's what we experienced).

Thanks Again ProudGMBard,

No the luxury/fancy thing is not a priority, clean, quiet, & adequate is just fine with us. Speaking of the parking pass...I asked this question on another site. In the form letter where there is suppose to be a password it is blank? Should I be concerned or could it be because my husband is retired AF so we might not need vehicle pass? Or do they require every vehicle to have a pass, and if so what should I do since there is no password on the form letter?

BDee...

I hear ya about about airfare costs!  Navy Lodge worked out great for us. Nothing fancy, but clean, quiet, and adequate. If you want luxury...it won't be the place for you. We don't care about fancy...just clean. We stayed at the Courtyard for two nights because we had a coupon!  You can't beat the price of Navy Lodge, and it is nice and close to the base. More time to spend with your sailor and less time driving!

Don't forget to print out your parking pass and keep it in your car.

So, she's gonna be a MM ??!!! Very cool!  I think MM's go to BECC before A school. I might have my Moms mixed up, but I think Jane would be the one who could share more info on MM with you.

I get chills every time I think of PIR !

Thanks ProudGMBarb,

Yes I can't wait for her PIR I am so excited...except about the weather..lol. Good idea about asking her which row..will do that in next letter. Already told hubby we're getting up really early that day..lol. Unfortunately I think we'll be driving as we can't really afford plane tickets (although gas isn't too much better). My hubby had foot (both) surgery a couple years back so I can imagine how difficult it would've been to try to sit with others on bleachers. Was checking out the Navy Lodge ourselves. What was your experience like there? Yeah I believe the liberty Sat & Sun is from whenever you pick up SR to 9pm that evening. I'm already prepared to only see her a couple hours if that on Friday because he school is right across from base. Her rate is MM so not sure what all that involves considering A school. I am prepared to have many tissues and know it will be my Proudest moment for/of her & one I'll never forget. My other daughter will be joining military in 2013 but not sure what branch yet but Navy @ top. Also my son interested in Marines I believe but he has awhile yet just turned 13 today. So, Ashley is my 1st Military experience as a Military Mom so hoping the next will be a little easier.

BDee...

PIR is AWESOME! You'll be glad you ordered the DVD. You'll want to watch it over again when you get home. I was soooo excited that day and my mind was going 100mph, so I really enjoyed watching it again later at home when I was a bit calmer!

It's gonna be cold...so dress warm & comfortably! The sections are marked with the ship/div number so be sure to get there early and get a good seat. Ask your daughter to tell you which row in her division she will be in, so you can spot her quickly. They practice, so she should be able to tell you. (My husband had just had foot surgery and was on crutches (very tricky walking on ice) ...so they set up chairs on the floor for us! We were soooo close we could have reached out and touched the sailors as they marched past us! way cool!) The seating otherwise is bleacher style...no backs...unless you sit at the very top row.

We flew into Milwaukee, and glad we did. Smaller airport...faster getting in and out. When it was time to come home, it was snowing, and they closed OHare, but we were okay at Milwaukee.

We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard Waukegan, and also at the Navy Lodge.

We really lucked out, because at that time the recruits were still allowed overnight liberty. And that Monday was Martin Luther King Day, so we had our sailor from Friday until Monday afternoon! But I believe the overnight liberty was stopped around March 2011. Your sailor will be given instructions on places and areas of the city that are off limits for them while out on liberty.

You mentioned her A school will be in GL. If so, after PIR, you will need to find something to do while she "moves across the street" to the TSC "school" side.

I'm not sure if this applies to all rates, but if your daughter is going to be an ET or an FC, then she will first be attending ATT (Apprentice Technical Training) which is approximately three months long. Then usually a short wait before A school starts. Actually the first thing she will attend is a week of Indoctrination (INDOC).

Ahhhh yes...San Diego! Our sailor did luck out. He just left for SD..will be there until March, and then Norfolk...then to the fleet. At least no more bitter cold winters in GL !

You are going to love PIR....and you will be soooo amazed and proud. It's one of those moments you will never forget.
