Sherri...How great of your company to help our troops! I am the Chaplain and Blue to Gold Liaison for the East Valley Chapter of Blue Star Moms.

However, since you are in Glendale, you probably want to contact the Central Valley chapter. Let me make sure that is the correct one for you, and I'll let you know and provide phone number, names, etc.

Thanks again!

That is just so horrible. Who could even imagine something like that happening. My prayers go out to him.

Ladies, my company is collecting items to send out to our service people and I told them I could deliver the stuff to the Blue Star Moms. Can someone help me out with this and let me know who I need to contact or what I need to do.

Kathy...thank you for letting us know about that tragic accident. I hope the young sailor has extended family to comfort him and help him through. Very very sad.

Been out of pocket for a few days. Hubby had cataract surgery on left eye on Aug. 30, and now on the right eye today. Doc takes a look at the right eye tomorrow afternoon. It's just amazing what technology can do these days. He now has new "multi focal" lens in both eyes.

Christian is almost done with A school...YIPEE! Graduation is either the 26th or 27th. Can't wait to find out where C school will be. Keeping our fingers crossed for San Diego of course!

Hope all is well with all you AZ Navy Moms!

How awful and sad!  I remember seeing pictures and footage of that accident last weekend.  The semi that hit them was going the opposite direction down by Piccacho (sp?) Peak.  The semi crossed the median and hit the van head-on, causing the van to burst into flames.  Then another semi hit the first one.  The driver of the original semi was in serious condition.  My prayers are with the young man and with the rest of his family.

Jane - there are a lot of nice places to see and things to do on Coronado and in San Diego.  I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.  Are you going after I go?  I will definitely let you know about the room and surroundings.  One thing, however, you can't make your reservations any earlier than 30 days before you go, so keep that in mind, too.

Jane - I will be staying at the South Coronado Naval Lodge - it is on the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.  I was able to make the reservations myself, but I had to give them my son's full name, rank, and pay level.  And Eric will have to go into the lodge with me when I check in, because it is on base.  He will be picking me up at the airport, so I will be with him at all times, anyway.  And as I said, it is only $42 a night!  Which one of the lodges is supposed to be right by the pier, with noise from ships and trains.  There is another lodge across the bay from Coronado.  I wonder if that is the one that is supposed to be so noisy?  There are actually two lodges on Coronado - North and South.  The North Coronado Navy Lodge was full - it's on the base where my son is stationed, about 15 minutes away from the South Coronado Navy Lodge.  I'll be going over there the weekend of the 30th of September - I will let you know how it goes when I get back.  The picture of the room on the website looks very nice - queen size bed, private bath, microwave, refrig, DVD/TV.  Some rooms even have kitchenettes.  I'm not too sure exactly which room I will have.  The rooms sleep 3 - but no children under 12.

Anita - the Nimitz was stationed in San Diego at one time then moved up to Bremerton, WA to go into drydock where it is now and then will be moving up to Everrett, WA after drydock and that will be the home base. I wish it was in San Diego then I could see her more often.

Arizonama - thank so much for the invitation, but I will be leaving early the next morning to visit my son on Coronado.  I will be staying at Navy Base Coronado South, and it is only $42 a night!  The picture of the room looks very nice.  Anyway, my son has to be with me at all times while I am on base, except in my lodging.

And RoosMama - thanks so much!  Your Terayaki meatballs were great!  Let me know how you might want to get the recipe to me.
