Jane - would love to get together, please keep me posted!  Great idea!

And speaking of food we had at the Admiral's dinner - I would love to have the recipes for the two different types of meatballs two of you ladies brought that evening.  I think one was Chipotle Raspberry, but I can't remember the name of the other one.

Dillons Mom, Cindy....could I please have your recipe for the delicious texas caviar you brought to the Admirals dinner? I sent an email to Marcy to ask her for it, but didn't hear back from her. Where is she, anyway? Haven't heard from her since the dinner.

Anyway, I've been craving for that texas caviar for weeks now!

Jane...AZ Navy Mom's coffee sounds good!

And my home is always open...if you all can put up with about five minutes of my dogs yapping. Yes, they are brats....but sooooo lovable.

JoJo - after being on the Reagan off and on, including 6-month cruises and 3-4 month excursions, Eric is very tired of being on the ship.  Now that he has shore duty, he has no responsibilites as far as the Reagan is concerned, unless he has 24-hour duty.  The Navy flew him home early in mid-July from the Arabian Sea to start his shore duty.  The USS Ronald Reagan does not come back into port from this cruise for a few weeks.  Eric applied for and was able to be assigned to a helicopter unit on Coronado Island.  He started school for that mid-August, and he will graduate from it in October.  He said he really likes what he is doing now.  I'm going over to visit him the weekend before he graduates.  Can't wait!

Sherri - the Nimitz is stationed on Coronado Island also, isn't it?  I remember seeing it when we were on the "Friends and Family" day.  Oh, and I forgot one thing about that day - while we were on the ship, the Reagan actually weighed anchor and went out into the open sea for about 50 miles, then turned around and came back into port.  Wow!  What a very full day that was!!!  So, Sherri, if you have the chance to get onto the Nimitz, do so.  Just be plenty rested and wear very comfortable shoes!  And what fun having your daughter home for the weekend!  How long has she been in the Navy?

Hi everyone, long time since I've been on here. Jojo, glad your son got some orders. Maybe being Undes might give him more opportunities than just taking whatever is open for the moment. I got a big surprise Friday night as my daughter came home to surprise me. She spent the weekend and flew back on sunday night. It was so good to see her.

Welcome, Joshies mom, this is a great site to meet some great women and learn about the Navy.

When I was in the Navy, my friends ship would take dependent cruises over to Maui and we would get to ride on the ship for about 8 hours and they would do a bbq on the fantail for us. It was fun. I can't wait to do a tiger cruise with my daughter, her ship is the Nimitz, so I think it would be so cool to go on a carrier.

My son Eric has been assigned to the USS Ronald Reagan ever since he has been in the Navy - over 5 years.  Right now, he just started 2-3 years shore duty on Coronado Island (great place to visit!), but if he stays in longer, he would be doing sea duty on the Reagan again.  So, as far as Eric is concerned, he will be associated with the Reagan until he gets out of the Navy.  I'm not sure if it is the same for everyone.

As I said, I had to miss the two Tiger Cruises Eric had coming back from Hawaii - dang!  But the next best thing is when the Navy has "Friends and Family" day.  That's when the Navy allows friends and family, including spouses or girl/boy friends, onto the ships with their sailors for the day!  It was so cool!  Eric was able to give us a tour of the ship - very tiring but quite exciting!  Talk about a lot of walking up and down on the narrow and steep stairs!  Plus, you had to be very careful when walking through the bulkheads in the halls - you could very easily slam you shins when going over.  I managed not to hit a single one.  Eric was able to show us where his bunk was, the galleys, the rec rooms, etc.  We even went down and saw the anchor room and the ginormus chains used to haul the anchor in.  Not only that, but the Navy also supplied the lunch - it was quite a spread!  Plus, there were things to buy with the ships name on it - T-shirts, mugs, sweatshirts, etc.  I bought a really cool jacket for cold weather with the USS Ronald Reagan's logo on it.  Love it!  Also, because the Reagan is an aircraft carrier, we were able to go updeck on the massive elevators and watch a mini airshow - including jets taking off and landing.  Way cool.  So, if any of you have an opportunity to go to your sailor's "Friends and Family", go.  You'll love it.

Nancy... Tiger Cruise is when family members can board their sailor's  ship (when it is coming into it's homeport). and experience a day or so of ship life.

My son's ship just had family & friends day...it's homeport is Japan AND I use a wheelchair so sadly a Tiger Cruise is something I will never be able to experience ):.They sound VERY cool, though.

Jane, what fun for you!  I was never able to go on a Tiger Cruise.  I really wanted to go the last time from Hawaii to San Diego, but I couldn't find anyone able to go with me.  I was very disappointed!  Have a great time.
