Thank You Blackbird for that information was just curious, and as for the time for stand down they will be notified as to when they are able to leave and return. From what I understand they have accumulated time since in BC. My son said around the 22nd or 23rd he shall be on his way, I sure hope so! I am requesting that time off and all of Christmas week just to be with him. mom of two I wouldn't borrow time because if something happens God forbid he will not have the time to be able to leave because now he will owe his time back. I believe I was reading something like that about borrowing time. I know Ladies we are so anxious to see our Sons/Daughters it makes for a special awesome Christmas.

My son said that they *can* stay on base during stand down, but anyone on base is moved into the worst barracks and will be put on cleaning duty. He's decided to save his "right after A school" leave and use it during the stand down so that he can be home the whole time. That's an extra couple of months before we see him, but two full weeks of vacation should make up for that!

@phoenixmom - your communication with your sailor will be the same while at their duty station, maybe more, unless they are on an underway or deployment. Of course you can have time differences, which may limit you. And other countries, they have to have different cell phones or plans, maybe. Anti M can give you more info regarding being stationed OCONUS. Our sailor is going to Pearl Harbor Hickam, so his time difference is 6 hours behind us. Otherwise, he will be able to use his cell phone as long as he isn't on the job or in a class.

I know he has to take his vaca accumulated and he can borrow as well.  If he doesn't want to do this, can he stay there?  Or would it go against him that way??  I will learn more, so I understand if there aren't answers.  Just getting anxious, I guess........lol

My son is using a lot of his time earned in order for him to take advantage of this time. From what I understand you can’t just leave because they are standing down

I believe it’s the 22nd through the 6th or 7th

I was also told he had up to ten days and needs to return by or before New Years.

Anti M I have a question for you, once our Sailor is done with A school and gets there instructions to go where they are told do they still have communication with us how does that work? like being sent to another state country? will communication be cut for until further notice. such as cell phones?
