phoenixmom I just sent a box of clothes to my daughter also! I used a cardboard box that had reams of paper in it. It ended up weighing 10.5 pounds and cost $19.95 priority mail. The post office said it had to go priority since it was going to Great Lakes. I didn't mind but my daughter was too busy to pick it up Friday when it got there and their post office is closed all weekend! She still hadn't had the time to go pick it up!!!

They keep adding new acronyms all the time, or changing them around!

Thank you Anti M, you have answered a few questions I didn't even know about. Now I'm off to re-read what you and Blackbirdmom have posted. One thing for sure, need to get my acronyms back out, there are a few I don't remember. Have a great day and thank you both again.

Abbster - there are sailors who are assigned to a ship that will be on deployment when they are scheduled to PCS, so they end up going straight to the ship. Our sailor had 2 buddies that happened to, they went straight from their leave to the ship that was deployed.

@BradenLMom - welcome. There are no silly questions. It's a lot to take in.

I have seen it go both ways, depending on the report date.  En route leave is the most common.  He just lets the travel office know he needs to be routed home on the way, for XX days.  The issue the tickets, then it is withdrawn from his pay over time (how long I really do not recall.  Traveling by POV (private vehicle) has specific rules, he can find that out when he's closer to going.  The stand down may make things wonky.  Only schools do the full stand down, so don't expect two leaves in December.  So many variables!

We will be close to both. Mine starts A school next week...he had INCOC last week, fire fighting this week and school next. He thinks he will be done in early-mid December. We are not sure if he will get leave before he is moved or after. If he stays in Great Lakes we can pick him up (we live about four hours away). He could also take train. If he moves first he would need to fly.

AECF is in Great Lakes, for the surface fleet. SECF is in Groton, CT, for submarines.  If he's SECF, he's going to Connecticut.  If he's staying in Great Lakes, he's AECF.  He may simply be a little confused, which is normal.
