The reality of holiday stand down is they have to wait until Oct/Nov to get the dates, and the room inspection means that they cannot depart early in the morning that first day of leave.  Unfortunately this translates into higher priced plane tickets.  There is no uncertainty, the good rates will be long past.

I really don't mean to sound harsh ... dang faceless internet makes my writing style sound impersonal.  I honestly feel bad and wish there was a happy nugget of truth I could share!

Speaking of "faceless", my eyes are improving, but still very swollen and bruised.  I should have had my surgery closer to Halloween!  Mine was a medical/eyesight thing, I cannot believe people choose to do this on purpose, and pay money to feel so awful.

Have a good evening Ladies.

Ladies spoke to my son today, he is enjoying school but very busy. He mentioned that for holiday leave they have to wait for instruction, meaning when time comes they will be told when it begins and when it ends. also some may have watch so until their duty is over is when they can make plans. sent him Sarges info on stand down rates, but until they are told they have to wait. I know the airlines lets you reserve flights so I guess it is a guessing game if you want to get the good rates. very unsure of what to do. Hope you all are having a great Sat.

Congrats blackbirdmom!  Hawaii is a wonderful duty station!  My dad was there back in the late 60s, so I went to 6th and 7th grades there.  It is a lot different now, but paradise is paradise... even with high prices.

Congrats Blackbirdmom! This group has gotten me through 2 boot camps, FIT, Pensacola A School, first duty station and now on to Great Lakes A School as soon as his medical is released and he can leave THU. Good luck to all the families and sailors and future sailors!

Our sailor graduated A school this morning. He was class leader and we are so very proud of him. He is officially a GSE now. We will have boots in the house in a day or 2. (He won't tell us when, because he wants to surprise everyone.) Then he is off to Hawaii for 4 years. I have to send out a huge thanks to this group, it has been a great support. And hugs and bigger thanks to Anti M, without whom I'm not sure I would have made it this far. :-)
