His orders are for Hawaii, which I know is considered an overseas base. But, is the checklist for Hawaii different than it would be if it were a foreign country (ie: Japan)? Our FR is not an E-4, and won't be for a while.
While on leave, he just goes and gets married. Because the orders are already issued, there will be no paid move for the new spouse, and the command will not be expecting a married sailor. That also means no house hunting leave or advanced travel pay. If he is stationed in the US, she can just move herself near the base. He will apply for the housing allowance, enroll her in DEERS and Tricare, get the ID card.
If his order s are for overseas, there are specifics for the new spouse to move there. The sailor must be an E-4 or above, and must get command sponsorship for the spouse. They must be SOFA sponsored in order to live in the foreign country and to receive housing, services, and benefits. Let me know if you need more details on that.
I have a question about a sailor getting married after he has gotten his orders. He is still in A school for a couple more months, but they want to get married while on his leave. Can anyone here help with that? I'm not the mother or the gf. Long story.
He's in training, not A school. They may be waiting for others to fill in a training unit. Hold times are not unusual, and can be hard to estimate.
My husband is S-PACT and was told A School would only be 10 days. Now it's looking like 3 more weeks (not including this week) does anyone know the time frame??
The taxi's can go on base. Uber's can NOT. @PANavyMom
Just an FYI from a mom who had PIR on June 2, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Waukegan. It was real close to Sarge's Meet and Greet, (Which I highly recommend you attend), and they had a free shuttle to PIR. The shuttle driver was very helpful. Our sailor just wanted down time. It was only about 5 minutes to the base, so he just sat in the hotel and talked. Don't plan to much.
Liberty after PIR , what is the best way to get them back to the base? I'm not planning on renting a car, but am staying a hotel with a shuttle. Maybe a taxi? which one can take them back?
Well, your sailor might have duty that weekend, and if so, could not leave the base. They would be able to have liberty on base when not on watch or mustering. If I'm guessing their PIR date right, they should have earned phase 2 liberty by then, no overnights, but can go offbase in civilian clothing.
I say go for it, and if they have a duty weekend, then make the best of on base visits, or go explore Chicago on your own. It is a marvelous town for museums and food!
