There is always a POD, Plan of The Day, and it always lists the uniforms required for the day.  The trick is, every command has their own POD, and within that command, different departments and divisions can have different uniforms specified.  However, once a sailor is settled in, they know what to wear when.

My son graduated from A School he had Blueberries, had to Purchase Greens, and all stuff needed for Petty Officer before he reported to his ship.  That was less than 2 weeks.  I now have 2 sets of Blueberries at home.

There were a lot of things wrong with the blues. They melt when in fire, were very heavy and hot to wear, and really the only camo they provided was when the Sailor is in the water. When a Sailor is in the water they generally want to be seen. LOL

The uniform of the day is posted when there is a need, otherwise it can be assumed. What their uniform requirement at their duty station is up to the command. In the middle east (combat zone) the greens are required, and have been.

I am not sure about all duty stations or on ship, but I would think until Oct 2019 they would have to be authorized to wear either, and from public posted ship photos it appears they are.

I know my son had spoke on it changing and that was during the Holidays, just curious as to when so it looks like it has been implemented but not for all until Oct. 2019 I really like the Blueberries as you so call it those are Nice!,  I do prefer those instead of the Green, did see a picture of the New Green. When one get to their Duty Station does everyone wear same Uniform same color or does that depend also? is there a schedule as to what day and what uniforms are to be worn? It is very Interesting, and I have noticed with the High schoolers also that are in ROTC their uniforms head to toe tend to change. At one point they were Green, and Now Blue.  Thank You Ladies for schooling me I find it quite interesting

Phoenixmom, They do have to pay for their new uniforms.  When they switched to green, it was the new recruits that received the greens, but the blues (called aquaflage, or blueberries) are still authorized to wear until October 2019 by those that were issued them.

Black boots are still the requirement for recruits. The brown boots (called desert tan, or coyote brown) are only authorized for those working at TSC. Yep, different uniform authorizations by the different commands in GL for the time being.

Your Sailor receive an allowance every year for uniform maintenance. When any new uniform becomes a requirement (when blues can no longer be worn) they will be given an allowance to cover the cost of the change.

I was just in GL a month ago, and was on base. When I was in the food court it was lunch time. I had a pretty good idea how long each of the Sailors had been in GL, and out of boot camp, by what they were wearing.

Some wore blues, some wore greens, but if they were just out of boot camp and in school they had black boots. Those walking around wearing brown boots with the greens were under a different command, and were probably instructors, or some other TSC personnel. It was interesting to see the change in the works.

The uniforms change far too often.  Seems like right now they change a LOT.  While the sailors do receive an annual uniform allowance, it never covers all the costs.  There is a minimum, but realistically, sailors need more than that, between laundry and inspections, one set of the uniforms they wear the most is not enough.  I had two sets or more of everything except my dress blues, or more for my daily working dungarees.  On a ship, that would be the equivalent of the coveralls these days.  The camo uniforms are really going through changes; they can't settle on what is both safe, easy to maintain, and actually useful.  As an Old Salt, I think camos are ridiculous for sailors, we need to be seen if we fall overboard.  For those on shore based duty in combat zones, fine, give them something simple like the old jungle camos my husband wore in Thailand.  Using an existing pattern the Army or AF already uses would keep costs down.  But no, someone is making money off the uniform contracts.  Figures.

LOL, I'm a little salty about the whole thing.

If you think his sleep patterns were bad with school, the ship will really mess with him.

You mentioning about the uniforms, didnt they just recently change? I have to admit I Loved the Blue army print, I think those were my favorite, I beleive they are green now if I am not mistaken. About that, when uniforms are changed are they given those or do they get a list as to what needs to be bought?  and as time goes do they just keep adding on to purchase more or is there a set amount of what they must have? always wondered how that was implemented. I dont know if I was the only one who noticed when their Loved One came home for the Holidays but My Son had a weird sleep pattern, was worrisome for a minute, but I guess that goes with being in the Military. Thank You Anti M I love hearing your stories and wisdom. Have a Great Day Ladies.

I enjoyed my time, even the parts which were awful.  Funny thing, the more things change, the easier it is to see what stays the same.  Sailors miss their families, letters are important, leave and liberty are always desired and often cancelled, duty sucks, uniforms changes are expensive, everyone is short on sleep, we're surprised and happy when the chow is good, lock everything up or it gets stolen, and above all, sailors LOVE to complain.
