I'm in NJ and we got hit with over 12" of snow yesterday into last night. I know some flights were cancelled. My son does not have to fly home until the 2nd of Jan. tho, so I'm hoping everything will go smoothly for him then.

Lori, delays happen.  There's always someone who gets back a day late.  As Angie says, they are to get a statement from the airline. If it is their own fault, well, they can get into trouble.  How much all depends on their COC and the circumstances.  Being late or absent is called "UA", unauthorized absence.  It can be dealt with in a number of ways, from verbal warnings up to Captain's Mast.  Each case is different.

The problem with the closed airports in New York is that it will ripple over to the airports across the nation.  There's a reason sailors should plan an extra day of travel.

Angie- rain won't delay the flights right? I'm just a little paranoid about Paul not getting to base on time. Our weather for this coming weekend looks ok. But after hearing horror stories about GL weather I have fears that the sailors are all sitting in their airports waiting for that flight to GL and having them all cancelled. Has this ever happened with returning stand down sailors?

Sorry- I meant Angie!

The snow missed us yesterday [ we live on the east coast] but i'm getting a little antsy about this coming weekend and Paul's having to fly back to GL.

Anti M- that's a lot of snow! Our weather this weekend is supposed to be 40s and maybe rain. I'm praying GL will be clear. But here's a ques Anti M- what happens if the flights are cancelled and the sailors can't make it in?

Merry Christmas my sisters!! Louis is home with my laptop. His friends
were over last night and stayed until the wee hours in the morning. A
lot of loud laughing and talking so I didn't get much sleep but I was
happy to have him home. He has been gone all day today and probably
tomorrow. We will have dinner together on tomorrow and spend New Year's
Eve together as well. He leaves Jan 1.

TiffsMom - My daughter will be an ET. Not sure what ship she's on. She moved across the street to the base, then moved ships two weeks later, then moved again just before Christmas when they consolidated sailors. She talked about moving ships in a blizzard with all her stuff and her seabag on her back. She's a little bit of a thing and I told her it's a good thing she didn't blow over because she'd lie there like a turtle on it's back. LOL

Jane - great advice! and how nice of that couple to pay for your meal. Enjoy your time with your son....and his friends!!!

Jane- how wonderful for your son for someone to take note of him like that. And that is indeed very good advice- we moms are saying that all the time but when a stranger says it.... maybe he'll listen!
