Kylesmomkaren, I feel the same way about other Sailors and their families. It is true. No other group of people can understand our lives. Maybe this is why the Navy started NavyForMoms and NavyDads. We are all so far apart in other states but I almost feel as though everyone here is next door.

Karen- what a great surprise for you!

Seems like they all respond in a different way to being home for the first time - my son did spend the day with us yesterday and he seemed fine. I was surprised because he hasn't been home for 9 months. He left after dinner and stayed at the fire station where he used to work. I expected that. He had a life before the Navy. And he knows we will always be there for them but as Sandy said they don't know if they can fit back into their old life. Some much time has passed since a lot of these sailors have been home. It may take some time to for them to feel comfortable.

My girl is home too.... :) :) her flight was delayed but after her sister getting lost coming/going to the airport to get her (I had to work) she made it home :)  Then she went and put on pj bottoms and an old High School t-shirt, had no makeup on, was ready to go to bed (been up over 24 hours) and her friends showed up to go OUT!!!  I was like, NOOOOO go to bed, but she went and so now I sit, waiting like a normal mom with a normal kid, NOT one that is grown up and in the Navy, hoping she is staying awake and having fun! :)  But glad she has been going for so long and her comment to me....... "We did battlestations with less sleep, I can go out and do fine!" hahahaha  She's 18, her first time to a 18/over club to dance, thank goodness they don't sell drinks to kids 18 and under! :)

My sailor son already knows that some things will feel different when he returns home. I was asking him about this 4 weeks ago.

I have a friend who used to be in the Navy. She told me that when she returned home for the first time, she felt kind of strange too.

@ Dillons Mom and Jodia.

My son is not home either. He is spending the night at his friend's house. He had made these plans months ago. It is a friend from work and this friend took the day off to visit him. Tomorrow he is going to work with his friend and I will pick him up at 11:00.

Dillon's Mom. I think your son just wants to make the rounds with his friends to make sure everything is the same. Kind of get a footing on where he stands now that he has moved on with his life. I think your son realizes that he has changed since boot camp and Great Lakes. I might be worried that maybe he won't be able to relate to his friends anymore. (or his friends to him) Don't worry, he will deal with what ever happens fine. Just give him lots of hugs.

Jane, I hope everything works out well for your Sailor.  My son spent most of the day in the USO. He really likes going to the USO.

5 days will go by very fast. Before you know it, he will be home.

Yes, Stevie, Christmas miracles do happen. My daughter called today to say she'll be coming home tomorrow instead of the 22nd. Can't wait!

He's home. I don't kow that I have evr been happier. Other than when he was born.  I only got him for a few minutes before his friends came and took him to celebrate but he's home and will be walking thru that door and it's amazing.  I know you are all just as happy and no one else undestands.  It's not like he's away at college like his friends.  Never know when I will see him again. Other moms don't seem yo get that but you all do.  Hug your sailors; I sure will be hugging mine.

Jodia- my son has 2 nieces he's never seen either. He left 9 months ago but it seems like longer. Bless him he stayed and ate dinner now it's on to see his friends at the station...

BigDmom- United did not charge my son to change his flight either. And he said security was a breeze.

I am happy too. I can't believe I my son will actually be home. He has not been home since June 15.
